About

The Bens is a unique indie supergroup formed by three accomplished songwriters, Ben Folds (piano, vocals), Ben Kweller (guitar, vocals), and Ben Lee (guitar, vocals). Originating as a side project from their solo careers, the trio united to explore a shared love for indie rock, indie pop, and indie folk. Known for their engaging harmonies and clever songwriting, The Bens quickly developed a cult following. Each member brings their individual style to the mix, creating a collaborative sound that is both eclectic and cohesive.

How to Sound Like The Bens

The Bens' sound is characterized by melodic richness and a blend of acoustic and electric textures. Ben Folds’ use of the Baldwin BP211 Piano lends a warm, resonant depth to their arrangements, while Ben Kweller and Ben Lee’s guitars offer a mix of jangly acoustic tones and gritty electric riffs. Kweller often employs the Epiphone FT-79 Texan for its bright, articulate sound, complemented by the fuzz-drenched power from his Gibson SG Special and Electro-Harmonix Sovtek "Green Russian" Big Muff Pi. The result is a dynamic, layered sonic palette that balances introspective folk elements with vibrant pop hooks, perfect for musicians seeking to capture the harmonious spirit of The Bens.
