The Impressions are an iconic American musical group renowned for their influential role in shaping the genres of soul, rhythm and blues, and Chicago soul. Formed in Chicago in 1957, the group originally consisted of Jerry Butler (vocals), Curtis Mayfield (guitar, vocals), Sam Gooden (vocals), and brothers Richard and Arthur Brooks (vocals). Known for their harmonious blend of gospel-inspired vocals and socially conscious lyrics, The Impressions became a defining voice of the 1960s, particularly under the creative guidance of Curtis Mayfield. They are celebrated for their ability to intertwine rich vocal harmonies with themes of love, spirituality, and civil rights.
