About
The Kids are a pioneering band from Belgium, celebrated for their energetic blend of punk rock, power pop, and proto-punk. Formed in 1976, the band is comprised of Ludo Mariman (vocals), Luc Van de Poel (guitar), Danny De Haes (bass), and Eddy De Haes (drums). Known as veterans of the Belgian punk scene, The Kids quickly made a name for themselves by sharing stages with iconic acts such as Iggy Pop and Patti Smith. Their early albums, including the self-titled The Kids and Naughty Kids, established them as a force in the late '70s punk movement.
How to Sound Like The Kids
The Kids’ sound is characterized by its raw, high-energy delivery and straightforward musical arrangements. To emulate their style, focus on crafting tight, distorted guitar tones that cut through the mix, often achieved via overdriven tube amps and minimal effects to maintain a gritty, authentic punk vibe. The rhythm section is punchy and relentless, with driving bass lines and dynamic drumming that maintain a brisk tempo. Vocals are delivered with a rebellious edge, often featuring shouted or aggressively melodic lines that convey the raw emotion typical of punk rock. For musicians looking to capture the essence of The Kids, prioritize a stripped-down, powerful sound that reflects the unpolished, live energy of their performances.
