The Reels Members, Gear & Sound

The Reels are an Australian rock band known for their eclectic and often unpredictable sound. Emerging from Dubbo, New South Wales, they stand out as one of the few prominent bands not originating from Australia's larger capital cities. The group was initially formed by Dave Mason (vocals), Colin ‘Polly’ Newman (keyboards/saxophone), Paul Abrahams (bass), John Bliss (drums), and Craig Hooper (guitar). They gained attention with the release of the single and album Quasimodo’s Dream, showcasing their unique post-new wave style. Over time, The Reels became known for their innovative use of backing tapes and sequencers, as well as their distinctive covers of popular songs, including Burt Bacharach’s "This Guy’s In Love With You" and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s "Bad Moon Rising".
