Indeed. Whenever I come across a bunch of items that can be lumped into one category, I mark them down. The idea being to merge them. That way the 4 artists who use a Fender Jazz and the 15 artists who use a Fender Jazz BASS, and the 2 artists who use a Jazz Bass Fender will all be linked into one model. It will be such a sweet thing to see.

I'll also add that many members really missed out on the opportunity to flesh out their favorite artists before. Before when we had to accept submissions, more often than not all the info we would be given is

"Clearly seen in photo" "Clearly used in video"

The body is really the time when you can share little tid bits and unknown details about your favorite artists' gear. People may not know that they get that distinct sound fron using a 1x18 tube with 4 3004.45x tubes. Clearly I know nothing of tubes... but you get my point.

Careful there, Boom. The year a guitar is made is still very important as well as the type of model, such as custom. However, discriminating colours and the order of words would work fine.

Well, what the owner prefers (At least who I think the owner is) prefers that the models be generalized in the Spotted section and the details of year, color, customization, etc be posted only in the paragraph for the actual artist. Like this...

Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar

Proof : In Pudding

Body: Jon Banananas, the lead guitarist of the band Electric Mustard, is well known for using the Fender Stratocaster as seen here in this live performance at Jazzfest. He is most seen with a 1921 Fender Stratocaster EZ-Rii-Der with red binding and has been known to sport a See-through acrylic 2016 Fender Strat Custom.

^ Everyone who has ever contributed to this crap that is Rob Chapman's artist page, PLEASE, A DEMO DOES NOT MEAN HE OWNS IT, DO YOU REALLY THINK HE OWN 198 PRODUCTS OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY??

I know brother. I've been down that road too. It will be fixed eventually. I used to get outraged by the idea that "Oh look. Chappers is standing in a room that has a clarinet... THAT'S HOW HE GET'S DAT TONE YALL!" What we had to start doing is placing #Product-Demo in all the gear he doesn't actually own for later deletion or re-organization. Just like how we have pages for fishermen and all the rods and reels they endorse, the concept that this place serves to show how the musicians get the tone and not so much what gear they have touched hadn't come into full bloom yet. I blame the point system to be honest. It's like how kids will play the same level in a game over and over to unlock some 30 point achievement.

Something else that will get done eventually is replacing individuals years of models with the series name. As an example,

1962 Fender Strat 1962 Strat Fender 1962 Fender Stratocaster 1962 Fender Strat (Red) 1962 Fender Strat Custom 1970 Fender Strat

will all become

Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar

Well, I'll speak from experience. It may be a Juniour, but the sound is absolutely fantastic. Even the single coil is very hot, almost to EMG levels, but are not neutered like EMG's, so their cleans are AMAZING.

The neck is very fast, very smooth, weight is is just above a stratocaster, and the Floyd Rose... eh, that thing was screwed up. Never stayed in tune, but I loved to just hit harmonics and drop'em.

I had to return it because Pitbull Audio gave me a Jem with a defective input jack.

You might look into the EverTune technology for a tremolo bridge. They are supposed to be amazing.

Please... somebody please tell me WHY THIS IS ON A MUSIC SITE?!

When Equipboard started, we were testing out the idea of cataloging everything everyone uses be they musicians, athletes, chefs, archers, or whatever profession. We're musicians, and music is what most of the people who found Equipboard were interested in, so we stopped asking for non-music submissions. We've just yet to remove non-music submissions.

Also, you rock for continuously pointing out the many things that need attention. We're working on making it so anyone can fix those things. So even though I'm not actively fixing each thing you're pointing out, you're really helping to surface the things that should be a priority for us. Thanks for that!

I wouldn't make it all open to ANYONE. That would make us susceptible to bored teenagers who want to ruin the site or other gear sites to delete all that they can.

This isn't exclusive to music, but it bugs the hell out of me when someone lists something for sale and classifies it as "MINT", then continues to describe the various problems with what they're selling. For example:

"MINT Roland SH-101 – one of the keys is broken, it's missing the battery cover, and the filter doesn't always work. Aside from those issues, it's in MINT condition."

NO.

How about when they say they will pay you a super low value of money and somehow it's supposed to sound more enticing to say "Cash". "Well... you have it listed for 500.... Ill give you 200 cash!". No, you'll give me 500 cash... because people typically pay for items with.... you guessed it... cash.

Do they think people are selling items out there in hopes of checks, credit card numbers, or indentured servitude?

There are a lot of sites that catalog musicians for the sake of them finding each other, like BandMix, BandFinder, and so on. The only way you will really find people in abundance is to go meet them at live performances of local bands. When you meet 1 person and click, he'll introduce you to 3 others and so on.

I have nearly zero chance of getting what I want. Christian Death Metal or Video Game Metal :(

In my experience I've learned not to share where you work or where you live till you know they are decent folk. I made the mistake of meeting 2 musicians... if you can call them that, at a former job. Both guys had severe mental disabilities including Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar, Asperger's, and personality disorder. They were not up to snuff for me and they had a completely unrealistic idea of what the band would be. Before I even stepped out of my car the first time I went over to jam, the guitarist walked up and stood in the way of the door. He staired at me with an emotionless face and in a monotone voice said "We have a gig tomorrow night. You can make it right?". This mind you is before I even played a single note for them. The jam session was chaos. They changed things mid song, they couldn't explain what they were planning, and it was very tough to deal with. I'm well versed in mental disabilities as an advocate with Partner's in Policy Making and I was engaged to a PhD Professor of Counseling. It's not like I didn't know what was happening here but I felt it would be too stressful for me to pursue. I eventually asked them what they had and had them spill the beans about what they had been diagnosed with and they confirmed my non-professional diagnosis.

I broke it off with them.... I thought. I told them they were just going in a different direction musically than I was and that I really didn't have time to work gigs while also doing school finals and full time work. The day after, they both came to my work twice a day, every day. They behaved WAY worse than before. They would ask me to talk with them outside. I'd tell my manager I was going on break and go outside and look around to find no one on property. Looking out I would see them walking down the block.

In short, make sure you know the mentality of the people you share your personal details with, but get out there and meet people if you want to find musicians to play with.

WHY DOES NOBODY LIKE STING?

They have him wrestle about a match a year now. He attacks someone around January so he can have a reason to be in the next Wrestlemania. He's really just a shell of who he was. He's become a Ric Flair and a Hulk Hogan. Every match is identical. He's only allowed to do the Tombstone on rare occasions so you never see it in matches.

I really wanted Kane VS Undertaker as his last match and that way they can retire both characters. WWE has crapped on both characters for years. I want to remember Kane being a scary scarred giant who caught people on fire and couldn't be killed. Over the passed decade they've made him comic relieve, a normal guy, and they strongly hinted for a few months that he was in a homosexual relationship with his tag partner, the relationship of which consisted of the tag partner yelling at Kane, and Kane crying, hugging the other guy, and trying to mend their relationship. They even had them go to couples counseling as a gimmick. They've really gotten as far away from the original Kane as they possibly can.

I haven't watch wrestling routinely in years but every year or so I get curious how things are going and try to catch an episode. I'm always angered and disappointed with what I see.

People who claim they like a band and they actually mean "I like that one song enough to listen to it"

These young kids who go around in Pink Floyd and Misfits T-shirts and don't actually know anything about them beyond they are a band. I will actively embarrass those kids when I see them. Approach them all excited and ramble a bit about the band, then drop a "So besides The Wall and Dark Side, what do you think is there best album so far?" They used to be completely crushed and turn red in the face. These days it's more accepted to be a poser and others identify that the reason for wearing the shirt is just leave a faint illusion that the wearer is well versed in music. The last few people I tried it on weren't too affected and admitted immediately that they knew nothing of the band. Today's youth are trained to think that claiming to respect and listen to all music makes you a modern, well learned man. This also stretches into comic book shirts. Don't wear a Green Lantern symbol on your chest if you have no idea what is. I've seen a lot of people wearing Marilyn Monroe, Bill Murray, and other celebrity's' faces on and they have little idea who that person is. "What's your favorite Monroe movie?" "No this is Marilyn Monroe on my shirt" >:(

I was forced to step inside a Walmart this last year and took a photo of a kid's shirt hanging right up in front with Masonic symbols all over it. A kid's not going to know what they mean and even worse, the parents are likely dumb enough just to throw it into the cart without a second thought. Irony... children of the 99% wearing the symbols and structures of the cults of the 1%.

The idea that wearing a band t-shirt of the band you are going to see is a fopa. I don't see how it is. I've even gone to shows with people and because we were wearing the same band, they changed shirts. I just don't get it.

Bands they claim to be heavy/brutal/metal/etc and nearly all their songs are about breaking up, telling a girl how they feel, or how life isn't fair. They usually sing all squeeky voiced during the choruses and have feather bangs in their eyes.

Bands that switch genres or styles to be more mainstream for the sake of getting more money. My cousin was in a band for 10 years that was sponsored by Jagermeister. Half way through, they started writing more and more songs that fit into the complaint above. I asked my cousin one day why they were changing everything about themselves including the way they dressed and so on. His answer was "We got tired of going backstage to a bunch of bearded guys and wanted to see more loose women back there". Lame You can pick up loose women without a band having a gender crisis on stage.

WHY DOES NOBODY LIKE STING?

I haven't liked him since he went red and black Wolfpac. The less he says, the better.

http://www.ringsidecollectibles.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/539644-sting_nwo.jpg

By the way, that was hysterical. I'll bet a lot of our younger members don't even get the joke though!

He's still around actually. They made him TNA's version of Stone Cold for years and recently he fought Undertaker at Wrestlemania. He was one of the keys that clued in the WWE owning TNA and ROH. I remember years ago on A&E he gave an interview saying that McMahon had been trying to get him into the WWF for years but only to lose to one of the top talents. Once the Invasion storyline happened, it worsened. True to his word though, 20 years later he finally got to do it. Write that Sting loses his first big match against a WWF Attitude persona. The young'ns will likely know who Sting is, but the version they know him for is a loud mouth that loses matches.

Interesting note, Sting had to wrestle Jeff Hardy the night he was high on heroin. Sting became so mad that he gave him a real kick to the gut before pinning him in the first 20 seconds of the match. The ref's, Eric Bischoff, and Sting all planned it off the top o ftheir heads so that they wouldn't risk fans knowing what was happening. Everyone boo'd Sting for winning in 20 seconds with 1 move and Sting left the arena telling the crowd "I know. I'm sorry. I think it's bull$%$% too"

I like a couple of genesis and police songs okay. The most interesting thing about Sting for me was that he played with his thumb, the way I taught myself. I always thought I invented that style until watching him play.

Guitarist Wanted

For those of you who are guitarists, I recently started on a project where I covered a song from scratch. I did the rhythm guitar, bass, and a drum track. I plan to do the vocals as well and had arranged for a friend of mine to play the solo of the song as I am not skilled enough for it.

If you are interested in a collaboration with me, please hit me up. All I need is a 20 second solo. It IS the solo for Symphony of Destruction so, it is pretty challenging. If interested, let me know. I will give you full credit on the channel and I can share with you the finished result in private before it goes live to ensure quality. Not a paying gig. This is just for kicks.

The more wood you have on an instrument and the greater it's contact is to itself, the better the sustain "the notes ring out longer naturally". With modern electronics and amps this isn't too much of an issue though. Dimebag Darrel Abbott for example used some bolt on guitars but he had that amazing scream from them still. A delay with the right settings allowed his to ring out forever. What I believe is more important is that your dexterity and comfort are fitted.

I prefer 2 options on all my instruments that lower the sustain. I like bolt on necks so that I can easily replace the neck if something happens to it (twisting is an issue in dry Texas weather) and I like super skinny necks. I'm 6'3 and 310 lbs. My hands are large enough that from pinky to thumb is 9 inches. Most people try to throw me fat necked instruments and I cannot stand them. My fingers bend in towards the center of my palm when I bend them, so making large stretches on a neck is not an option for me. I also have a death grip on my neck when I play. A larger neck makes my grip weaker and I feel some techniques become harder for me to do without a strong pinch.

I had a neck through bass once and the fret board was shaped like a staircase. It was looking to be an expensive fix for a cheap instrument. After that I decided to always go with bolt on necks. I want to get a high end Spector once day and the trend with higher end basses is to have them neck through to raise the sustain so I will have to have ole' Stewart make me a custom one. Replacing a neck is so much cheaper than a whole guitar, especially if you really like the body and electronics.

I've never had a problem with weight on guitars or basses. Heaviest bass I ever played was an 80's Ibanez Roadster. Must have been like 9 pounds. So long as you stand with correct posture and have a wide strap, you'll be golden.

When people don't know the name of the song they like singing so they just say half the chorus and hope the name is in there somewhere.

What's worse is when people hear the words wrong. "I've always liked that Metallica song, "Sand Patrol".

I like the idea of blind tests because if you see what kind of guitar it is, it may temporarily distort how you feel about it. If you KNOW it's a 4000 guitar, if you see that it's the same guitar a hero of yours uses, and so on can effect it. It has for me in the past. I really got out of the aesthetics part a lot. I used to only want pointy instruments but the ones I want more than ever now have the round bodies I used to always be against. (Lakland, Spector, Wal, ESP Halibut).

Our GC sucks. 20 Basses (All Ibanez and Squire), with 2 amps, and the used section is about 12 guitars. They are likely going out of business though so, maybe Sweetwater will buy them and open up shops everywhere.

I would play this guitar if it felt good and sounded right.

Perry Bean. The guy who's like 35 and has a teenager's haircut. He annoys me so much. He doesn't seem to know a whole lot about the bands or gear they use and he bypasses all of his ignorance with "Cool man" or "Cool, cool". The chick they used to have for the metal bands did such a better job. She would actually throw in stuff like "Back when you were with King, did you have him using the same DI or was it different?". This bean guy's type of questions are. "Alright man, so tell me what this button does". Really?

If you can find a reasonable Takamine that would be appropriate in a church and that I can afford, then yes. Otherwise, I can't even consider those guitars, amazing as they are.

Pretentious Luthiers

When a beginner band or musician (also happens in CCM bands a lot as well) all have Fender amps, guitars, basses, and cables. It bugs me to no end to see a blind loyalty to just one brand.

Musicians who are unable to play at low volume. Especially when you are discussing the music you are playing with them. The idea that the shape of an instrument determines what music it can play.

People who complain about tones of instruments in a video when they are listening to the music through laptop or phone speakers.

The douche bag on the new "Rig Rundown" videos.

People who argue that a hip-hop lyricist is every bit as talented or more so than an actual musician.

Songs that consist of only 3 patterns.

Singers who strums 2 chords on an acoustic guitar and claim they are guitarists.

Drummers who can't keep time

Guitarists who skip measures in a race to the parts they like playing

Bassist who only play root quarter notes.

Bassists who only play with a pick. Sometime's its needed, but are you a bass guitarist or are you a guitarist who was forced to play a bass?

Weird string spacing.

Guitar shops that only carry 2-3 brands and none of them are nicer brands.

Lubbock, TX's craigslist

People who try and sell low quality instruments at prices that are higher than they paid for them.

The bands that the radio plays and therefore we are all supposed to worship. It's almost 20 years since Cobain swallowed buckshot and they still play his puberty voiced garbage on stations that are supposed to play current music.

Having the "Metal" conversation with sheltered fans of the genre. It always gets as far as "I like brutal metal." Oh, what bands are your favorites? "Only the hard stuff. You know, 5 Finger Death Punch, Mudvayne, Hell Yeah, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold". No. NO. These bands play simple music, sing girly choruses, and the most brutal thing their front men sing about is usually"Im gonna punch you in the face and that is my revenge! I'm so tough and evil !"

Radio Stations in general

I'm sure more will hit me later.

Guitar Recommendations?

Narcist,

  1. Used is the way to go but only if you've put your hands on the same make/model before and know that you like the feel.

  2. I do NOT recommend anything Gibson or Epiphone. I hate their products and the company as a whole. Their necks are thick and brick like and the tone is nowhere near what you pay for it. I played a 1000 Taylor once and then immediately played a 3000 Gibson acoustic. The Taylor won in every way.

  3. I really like the 90's Ibanez RG Series that are made in Japan. Humbuckers, fast necks, solid tone, and they are usually in great condition. They can go for 400-500 usually. With the other 500, you could invest in a little stack or keep saving for a tube head.

  4. 80's Takamine solid-bodies.... just saiyan

  5. The thing about buying a guitar that you feel is beyond your skill; it makes you want to play it more and thus makes you a better player. A guitar that is set-up well and feels nice to play on will have you picking it up every time you walk near it.

  6. Try to get a guitar with 24 frets and if you don't plan on learning advanced techniques, I'd also recommend getting a simple, non-tremolo bridge. It will make string and playing a lot easier for you.

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!

EDIT: "Nearly 1000 submissions have been approved in the last week"

Is this normal for this site, or is EB having a sudden burst of submissions and/or members?

This site had like 100-150 submissions a day beyond the ones that were being reviewed and added. Over a weekend, we'd have 300 or so more to try and fight back. Because we changed the format of how submissions are made, the numbers have stopped and miggity and the rest have nearly wiped out the huge number that hadn't been accepted yet.

I think those two you mentioned's submissions have the review tag on them because they were added after the format change. I believe the items stay on the artists' pages though so that's a plus. Eventually, I believe we will have a system in place where if multiple members in good standing accept the evidence of the artist using the item, then it will be accepted. This system will likewise work for inaccurate items. Members can all rally and down vote an item off an artists page.

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!

Okay, a few things to comment on this.

  1. Nearly 1000 submissions have been approved in the last week and nearly all of them are miggity and austin. A lot of work is done on the site that doesn't necessarily show up to members. In fact, I may have done the least of all mods and admin so far. I used to get frustrated that out of 800 submissions, miggity had already seen 600 of them, reviewed them, and had spoken with the member who submitted it :) . That dude is really on the ball.

We all have our different roles and of course different schedules in the real world. Rest assured, all things get worked out eventually. Being given the opportunity to be a moderator for this site really opened my eyes up to many things. Where I thought things just weren't getting done I realized that the shear amount of content, fixes, and programming is overwhelming. A famous quote sums it up, "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;".

  1. Submissions are about to be submissable by members, if they aren't already.

  2. Many times, members don't check on their submission status and if there isn't enough proof to make a submission, one of the staff will come through and ask for more content or help finding a make/model or etc. If you are finding that your submission hasn't been made yet, please check the status of it on your profile page. There may be a BUNCH of notes and comments from the mods mentioned above ;)

I'd also like to leave you an example of the work just 1 submission requires on average. I am guilty of all the things below as well when I was a member.

Member submission: "Guitar is CLEARLY seen in video" or "DUDE uses this item" Submits 17 minute video without using YouTube "Start From" feature.

Mod's Part: Where in this giant video is the guitar he's talking about... wait... there are 3 guitarists in this band? Which one is DUDE? Lemme go on google and look at the member list of the band.... oh okay, the guy with the beard is who he is talking about... okay.... hmmm.. That guitar looks different than the one they submitted. I'll leave a note and see if they can show me another video or something.

This is often the end of the experience if the member doesn't check on the status :( If the submission is legit however, the mod then has to reformat the entire submission, select a photo of the item, list who uses it, what band they are in, and type up a bit about it. Sometimes this can take anywhere from 3 minutes to 20 if the submission requires a lot of digging and re-writing.

I'm not posting this in a negative light or even a judgmental one. My hope is just to share enough of whats going on that everyone will be more willing to exercise patient and understanding.

In Short...

Things will be fixed eventually

Please respect the staff for the work they do

Do keep posting errors, concerns, and suggestions. That's why this thread exists!

These two should be deleted. The duo of Infected Mushroom share the same equipment and work together, therefore they should be considered one whole.

On this one, we would leave it as it is because we don't have group pages, only individual artists. Is there one machine that one of the brothers uses more often? Maybe one piece is always on the right of the stage and the brothers tend to stay in the same configuration?

One of them IS mispelled though.

Amit Ducedevani needs to be changed to Amit Duvdevani

This Page needs to be deleted as it is a group and not an artist.

What was your first instrument purchase?

First bought for me was an acoustic classical guitar from Mexico. My mom crossed the border and went Christmas shopping with a friend in Juarez. It wasn't built super well but she had to sell her blood a couple of times to afford it whatever it's price was. It's unplayable these days but I still have it's corpse in a storage shed.

Never did any lessons except for 1, way after I was already well versed on playing. I paid 20 bucks for a guy in Alpine, TX to give me a lesson and I was so disappointed in the whole thing I never went back. I was hoping he would teach me something I hadn't already taught myself. Lessons are worthless in my opinion. They can teach you theory and fancy words for techniques but they can't make you a musician if you weren't born with it in you. With very few exceptions, the best players of any instrument are self trained. There are SOME virtuoso's out there they have classical training but it's not common.

HUMBUCKERS

I have two.

  1. EMG 40DC

My first active bass was an Ibanez 305DX. Once I went active I couldn't ever go back. I just hate the tone I get with passive. The EMG 40dc's are a solid dual-coil with a little bit of low burp/growl to them. Paired with a Spector 5 string, you can get amazing croaky growl while still keeping the mids and highs perfect and thick.

  1. Unknown MM Style Bucks

I bought a Hadean EB-9705 a couple of years ago from RondoMusic. The bass itself was garbage with a neck through neck built like a staircase. It was so bad the local luthiers here wouldn't even touch it, not to mention the customer service and return policies of Rondo sucks. I stripped the bass and shaved the body and neck into a baseball bat. I figured I would keep the the other pieces for a project bass. The pickups I got off of it are amazing for their price. Highest, Loudest output in a pickup I've ever had. We tested them out and held the pickups for strings and nearly an entire inch away the strings rang through loud. I still have them in a bag and was planning on making a Red Lantern's Omage bass out of a bongo body with them. The only downside to them is that they drain a battery like you wouldn't imagine. The circuitry of the Hadean was incorrect and it was set so that the preamp was using battery charge even when the input jack wasn't plugged in. A new 9V battery would only survive about 24 hours. I still prefer MM style pups. The sound just fits me well. http://www.rondomusic.com/photos/bass/vickers5nm5.jpg

I was noticing you have the Kemper in your gear board. Did you just get one?
