Replacement for Fender CP Jazzmaster neck
My advice is to buy an aftermarket neck through a company that can do customs like Halo or Warmoth. They sale necks that fit to those bodies and you can have a custom made to your specifications.

Overpriced and useless or innovative and scintillating
Most bassists are willing to spend the dough to get a high end pedal so long as it adds to their tone. We don't usually invest in flangers, delays, and octovers due to our nature being in finding the perfect clean tone.
Rack gear is usually more expensive than the average pedal. I've got my share of rack units and they average around 300 a piece. I've never liked the idea of having to kneel to the floor every time I wanted to change a setting so I've always gone with racks. The RIGHT pedal is worth it's high price though. Listen to the difference you get with this DarkGlass B3K

What's Your Dream Band Line-Up?
Instead of the guy from THE Legend.... why not Tim Curry from Legend.

I'm new to guitar. How do I go about picking strings?
I prefer thick gauge strings that are loose tension for 6 string. The smaller gauges have those knife edge high strings and they always get caught in my calluses. If I use thick strings, it works more like a bass and I don't get damage from it.
Nothing wrong with light gauge if it's comfortable to you. For about a year, I used an 8 gauge slinky. It was like playing on rubber bands.

Seeing those side by side.... I have to say he actually looked the most attractive in the early 90's. I guess he rolled the dice too long and ended up a Halloween mask.

Well, guitar strings and one more thing.
Strings absolutely matter to the tone of an instrument. Flat, round, what kind of core, materials used, tension, scale length, environmentally sealed... it's all relevant.
You should take advantage of playing an instrument with extremely affordable strings. Guitar sets run anywhere from 3 to 8 bucks. Best advice from me is to go out and buy 4 or 5 different sets and get a feel for them. Make sure they are all different.
Nickel wounds will be warmer, bassier, and softer to the ear
Stainless Steel will be brighter, more treble, and sharp to the ear. They sound literally metallic with certain sets.
As a bass player, I enjoy lots of highs and mids in my sound while maintaining a deep tone under it all. I prefer long scale, high tension round-wound strings and usually go for nickle but have had some fun with the SS as well. It cost me hundreds of dollars to discover my taste preference though. Bass strings run between 25-60 bucks a set.
A biased suggestion would be to stay away from DR strings unless you plan to buy them often. They sound awesome but they go dead quickly.

Some excellent suggestions here. Especially asking the store (and I would pick on a big chain, like Guitar Center) if they will sell you their broken cables for cheap bulk pricing. Although, I suspect they won't, because Guitar Center now has their own brand (which I think is called LIvewire ...) and they process the lifetime warranty on those cables. So basically, they are most likely shipping their broken house cables back to their own manufacturer and not selling them to you / us.
The only thing I can think of adding, is that I really didn't have time to solder all my cables, even though I have a soldering iron and the knowledge, so instead I bought the Planet Waves Cable Station cable kit. You can find it on my Equipboard. It's REALLY REALLY easy. And takes a few minutes. And comes with more than enough cable and parts to handle a busy board. In fact I have two boards, and got them both done with one package, and had leftover cable.
Actually, due to financial failures and the end looming near, Guitar Center is said to have stopped honoring their lifetime warranties. Heard it over on TalkBass some months back. Guitar Center won't be around in 10 I don't think.

Why do modern guitars experience more warping and swelling in thesummer heat than vintage guitars?
This is why I prefer bolt on necks. I've seen too many bass necks twisted and distorted due to the different Texas climates. I'd rather replace a neck than a whole instrument.

Need some new gear suggestions... Budget $1000AUD (~$750USD, £500)
Funny you mention it. I was talking with my church's pianist and got motivated enough to start teaching myself piano. It's difficult to stay focused on what Im doing though. I was running my hands through the C scale (just knowing the name of a scale is different for me) and realized it was all the notes for the Adam's Family theme. Once I matched up songs to the scale I left the scale behind and just started playing the songs. It's hard for me to turn off the music side and to just play the boring patterns.

How do I get better from here?
If all your riffs sound the same, it means you are only listening to one major genre. You need to listen to guitar heavy bands that you don't normally listen to. Every Slayer song nearly has a tri-tone in it, making them all sound like they could be the same song. If a person only listened to Slayer, their art would be limited to sounding like Slayer.
What kind of music do you listen to and play now?

750.... okay
I'd spnd 150 of that going to see your favorite band play live and a backstage pass. There's your motivation. Go mark out and get excited to be there. If your favorite band is Rush, all your moneys is Geddy's.
600 left.
Spend 50 on guitar heavy music that you wouldn't normally listen to. If your a blues man, get some Pantera or some Dream Theater. If your a metal man, go get some Bonamasa and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
550 left.
Go check out some specialized pedals like a Ditto or a Red Witch Synthotron. If you dig them, buy them. If not pedals, maybe an entirely different instrument to widen your skills. A Takamine Acoustic or a used Spector Legend Bass Guitar. Playing a different instrument will do a number on you mentally and give you a better idea of what you want in your music.

How do I get better from here?
Practice is the only cure sir. There are no short cuts or express lanes.
This year, an article as posted claiming that it takes 1000 acts of a single action to translate it to muscle memory and 10,000 hours to master any series of actions. Most people don't buy this but chances are the man who has played 10,000 hours is terrific.

I hate to say it, but this might be the first Marvel movie I'm not at all excited about. Deadpool wasn't a comic I followed though, so maybe I just don't get it. The trailer seemed super corny to me, and not in a good Guardians of the Galaxy way.
Deadpool was a pretty cheesy character in X-Force, but he made a good foil to super-serious cable in the early 90s. I was out of the mainstream comics loop by the time he got his own series though. I like how his pre-deadpool weapon X program character qas presented in the 1st wolverine solo film. Of course they killed him off in a totally weird way in that film. I ahte how the X-films have huge continuity issues whenever Brian Singer isn't at the helm. Anyway, the clips in the trailer seem just as true as the beginning of the Wolverine movie was to the Deadpool comics persona I remember from my youth. I just can't imagine 2 hours of Deadpool solo story making for compelling viewing. I am glad to see Colossus in it though... and Jason Lee from Mallrats? Love that guy.
BLASPHEMY! Ugggghhh. I've got to fight through the stroke to type :)
Wolverine Origins made the poorest attempt ever at Deadpool. In fact, it's the reason for Deadpool getting his own movie. So many nerd rages swelled and the movie studios couldn't refuse it anymore. There were soooo many online petitions going out for it.
Deadpool is a loud mouth, foul mouthed, goofball murderer, who breaks the 4th wall habitually and has 3 voices of his personality that he speaks with. His powers are a higher healing factor than Wolverine, super agility, and because Lady Death hates his guts now he is unable to die "Because she doesn't want to have to see him again to pick him up for the afterlife" (Ex-Lovers). Nearly everything that comes out of his mouth is a joke. He has a device on his belt that allows short teleportation and like a Looney Tune, he is able to pull out large objects from seemingly nowhere otherwise known as "The Magic Satchel". In one series, he killed every Marvel character ever, including Wolverine, Carnage, Hulk, etc.
Baraka-Pool from Wolverine Origins had his mouth formed shut, shot lasers out of his eyes, teleported naturally, had swords in his arms (hense Baraka-Pool), and Ryan Reynolds was embarrassed with the end product of the character. He never died. At the end of the credits, his eyes open and his body is digging through rocks for the head.
Reynolds was a legitimate fan of Deadpool and helped with the crusade to bring the real Deadpool to the big screen. He also fought for years to make sure the film was Rated R. There is just no way a guy who beheads people at a whim, drops F bombs a couple of times an issue, and touches on nudity could be a PG-13 and still be true to the character. They were really worried about this film becoming like all the rest of the comic movies thus far and having characters that are the wrong age, sex, race, species, etc. This is looking to be the most and possibly only accurate comic film of all the comic films from the last 2 decades. It's the difference between a comic fan making a movie for comic fans vs a studio making a movie from a comic for 4 separate demographics.
I would not be surprised if this movie is sold out across the country the first couple of nights. Deadpool started out gaining popularity when they first put him up against Wolverine. He soon after got his own comic, started making cameos in animated films and video games, got his own video game (THAT ROCKED AND MADE ME PEE A LITTLE), and then collected a huge following on the internet.
I would prefer his movie is a stand alone film and not tied into the other mutant fox films but they have already released a trailer where deadpool asks you to go watch Fant4stic.
They've teamed him up with a few different people over the years. One of the most popular was Spider-Man. He drives anyone he's with crazy.
Colossus looked amazing and accurate. He's one of the many characters that were crapped on in the other films. The attention to detail in Deadpool looks intense.
Here's the trailer's trailer as well as the original leaked test footage that pushed fox into letting Reynold's get what he wanted. Also, the Extra April Fools announcement. The test footage is hard to find now. I think Fox payed to have it pulled since they re-wrote the scenes and used Reynolds instead of CGI.

No on the adding gear to a band and not the individual.
The band should only have band members. The band members own the gear.
Example.
Nirvana uses a bad music generator. - Incorrect
Kirt Cobain, front-man and guitarist of Seattle Grunge band Nirvana, uses a bad music generator. - Correct
Also, the more you add as far as detailed information such as adding the band name to the post enhances the probability of a search engine hitting on it.
Welcome back.

Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!
I'm noticing the some people are submitting gear to a band rather than a person. "The Bad Suns use this guitar". This is slowly forcing a blood vessel in my temporal lobe to swell with rage.

Ahhhhhh. It's finally a reality. I've been waiting a long time to see this movie. It's difficult to make me smile and even more so to make me laugh out loud. This guy does both for me.
Warning - Red Band trailers have naughty words and interesting violence in them.

I don't agree with this statement, but a friend of mine recently told me "DC characters are created over powered so people will have something to look up to. Marvel characters are designed to have flaws so people can relate to them."
For every marvel character with a disability is a DC character with a worse one I feel.
Tony Stark - Alcoholic Speedy (Flash) - Heroin Addict
Magneto - Separated from parents during Holocaust Batman - Parents murdered in front of him (Barry Alan FLASH had it even worse. He went in time to the moment his mother was murdered and raped and because he stopped it as a time traveler and made the universe worse by it, he had to go back a second time to hold his first self down and let it happen. Barry Alan watched his mother go through this twice in person.
Due to me liking Marvel more as a kid and DC as an adult, I associate each brand with that age group.

And pray tell, how is Rob a hippy (Other than his hair, we get it)? He's into sacred geometry, lives on coffee, has some attachment to Buddism, wears sandles, and made up his own language and alphabet to describe ideas and concepts. All he lacks is some cheap Mexican import brew and a rusty scrap iron statue and he's in the club for good :)

I wonder how many Boutique Guitar makers use a Kiln. That's definitely something I never thought to ask before.

Top 3: Bands or Individual Artists You Wish You Could See Live
I've seen Slipknot twice due to them being billed with others bands I went to see. I've not seen them do a great performance yet. Shavo from System of a Down mentioned that a major band toured with SoaD in their first tour and though he wouldn't mention the name of the band, he said they lip synced the entire show. Of the bands that were with SoaD their first tour, I think he meant Slipknot.

Top 3: Bands or Individual Artists You Wish You Could See Live
I've seen nearly everyone I would want to.
1. Metallica
I don't enjoy their new stuff, but I want to be at a live show at least once. They were the very first piece of music that spoke to me. I was 6 and they made a huge impression on me.
2. Garth Brooks
For old time's sake
3. Pantera
I don't agree with the lyrics or nature of their music now, but I would have really loved to have seen them.

Les Paul Juniors?? Love em' or hate em'??
I hate Gibson/Epiphone. The necks feel chunky, they have very little to offer in variations of bodies (at least as far as bass is concerned), and the horrible sounding pickups on my Shariton II sealed the deal for me.
I once played a $1000 Taylor right before playing a $3500 Gibson acoustic. The Taylor beat it in every way.

What's Your Dream Band Line-Up?
Austin is a swarm of losers. People there just give up. There's a college there and so many people refuse to go. The cost of living there is going through the roof. I'm uncertain why this is, but even nasty, run down apartments are 1200 a month for a 1 bedroom now, even on the bad sides of town. You could get the same in San Antonio for around 600 and Lubbock for 750.
There is a huge population of musicians there. Some are good, some aren't. Nearly every corner has someone playing a guitar or at the very worst, bongos. For every 1 nice restaurant they have there's 20 that you want to stay away from. People try to keep a woodstock vibe going there. I think it's like Neverland. Children go there and never grow up.
