The Nord Lead, introduced in 1995, was one of the first virtual analog synthesizers and helped define the category. It was followed by the Nord Modular in 1997, the Nord Electro in 2001 — a portable instrument focused on emulating vintage electromechanical keyboards like the Rhodes, Wurlitzer, and tonewheel organs — and the Nord Stage in 2005, which combined piano, organ, and synth engines in a single performance keyboard. The Nord Wave, Nord Piano, Nord Drum, and Nord Grand have extended the lineup into sample-based synthesis, dedicated stage pianos, and hammer-action controllers.
