Cornell Amplification is a British manufacturer of hand-wired, point-to-point valve guitar amplifiers and cabinets based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The company was founded in 1991 by Denis Cornell, a veteran amplifier designer whose earlier career included work with Vox (assisting in the 1976 relaunch under Tom Jennings), Fender Europe, and the Arbiter group, where he contributed to designs including the original Arbiter Fuzz Face and Sound City's MkIII/IV amplifiers alongside engineer Brian Hucker.
The range centres on boutique tube combos and heads built without PCBs, with models including the Plexi 20, Studio 20, Studio 50, Voyager 20, Traveller 5, Plexi 7 mkII, and the tweed-styled Romany 10 and Romany 12 Reverb. Cornell also produces matching Elite and Standard speaker cabinets loaded with Celestion or Jensen drivers, along with a handful of effects such as the Legacy Fuzz and The Switcher.
The amps are aimed at players seeking vintage British and American tones delivered through traditional construction and premium components. Cornell amplifiers have been used by a number of high-profile guitarists including Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Noel Gallagher, and members of Placebo and Arctic Monkeys.
