In an interview with Wonderingsound.com: "Before Michael Kiwanuka topped BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll and earned himself a thousand comparisons to Bill Withers, the singer-songwriter wanted to sound like Jimi Hendrix or The Band. In this article his producer Paul Butler says that this mic has been used while the recording sessions for "Home Again".
"Mic-wise, it depends on the track. It's generally the CMV, but 'Tell Me A Tale' was done on the Coles. Besides also playing a regular D-18, Kiwanuka could be seen playing a rare 12 fret D-18VS Sunburst with a slotted headstock.
In this live TV performance on the BBC's Later... with Jools Holland, Michael Kiwanuka can be seen playing a Gibson SG Special. It appears to be a vintage model from the late 60s due to its larger, "Batwing" pickguard and apparent age. The guitar has also been modified with a Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, however it is unlikely that he uses it as the arm has been removed. Michael can be seen playing this guitar in many live performances of his song "Hero" from his eponymously-titled 2020 Mercury Prize winning album.
In this article Kiwanukas Producer said that Kiwanuka who played all the instruments including a 70's Fender Jazz bass on his debut "Home Again".
