Edwards is a sub-brand of Japanese instrument maker ESP, producing electric guitars and basses aimed primarily at the Asian market. The line sits between ESP's entry-level LTD range and its higher-end ESP Standard and Navigator lines, offering instruments with the look and specs of ESP custom shop models at a more accessible price point. Early Edwards instruments were built entirely in Japan; later production shifted so that bodies and finishing are handled overseas while final assembly, fretwork and setup are completed in Japan.
The catalog is organized into three broad groupings: a Replica series of classic shapes (the E-LP Les Paul-style, E-SE Stratocaster-style, E-SA semi-hollow, and E-TE Telecaster-style), an Original series drawing from ESP's custom shop designs, and a Signature series built in collaboration with artists. Edwards has been particularly prolific with Japanese signature models across rock, metal and visual kei scenes, and has also produced signature instruments for international players including Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom, Anchang of Sex Machineguns, and Aiji of LM.C.
Because Edwards is sold mainly through Japanese dealers and select international retailers, the line has developed a following among players seeking ESP-level quality on guitars that are harder to find outside of Japan, with the export market driven largely by secondary-market sales and specialist importers.
ESP Edwards has 43 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Solid Body Electric Guitars, Extended Range Guitars, and Electric Basses. Their gear is featured by 24 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Metal, and Pop. Notable users include Syu, Uruha, and Masayoshi Takanaka.
