Founded by Milton Kyser, a former machinist who spent decades making ball bearings for oil and gas rigs, Kyser Musical Products is an American manufacturer of guitar capos based in Canton, Texas. After purchasing a capo patent from a friend in 1975, Milton spent years refining the design and in 1979 invented the Quick-Change trigger-style capo mechanism that became the company's flagship product. Kyser Musical Products was incorporated in 1980, and the capo's one-handed operation and reliable spring tension helped it become one of the most widely used capos in the world.
Kyser's product line centers on the Quick-Change Capo, available for acoustic, electric, classical, and 12-string guitars, as well as banjo, mandolin, and ukulele. The company also produces partial capos and guitar care accessories. Every capo is manufactured using aircraft-grade aluminum through a multi-step hand-assembly process at the company's Texas factory, using American-sourced materials and machinery originally designed by Milton Kyser himself.
