Madrona Labs is a Seattle-based maker of software synthesizers, audio effects, and expressive hardware controllers, founded in 2008 by Randy Jones. The company takes its name from the Pacific Madrona tree native to the region, and its instruments are designed and, in the case of hardware, assembled by hand in the Pacific Northwest.

The company is best known for its software synthesizers Aalto, a semi-modular instrument inspired by West Coast synthesis and patch-cord routing, and Kaivo, which pairs a granular oscillator with physical-modeling resonators. Other releases include Virta, an audio-driven resynthesis and vocoding instrument; Sumu, an additive and FM synthesizer; and Aaltoverb, a reverb effect derived from Aalto's reverb algorithm.

On the hardware side, Madrona Labs developed the Soundplane, a multi-touch force-sensitive controller with a hardwood playing surface that predates the MPE standard. The Soundplane's sensing hardware was developed in-house, and the instruments have found a following among experimental and electronic musicians interested in expressive, continuous control.
