Plogue is a Montreal-based developer of virtual instruments and audio software, founded in 2000 by David Viens and Sébastien Beaulieu after the two studied computer science at the University of Montreal and performed in the city's electronic music scene. The name comes from Quebec slang for "plug," reflecting the company's roots in writing VST plug-ins like Rebuilder and MixedGrains to extend their hardware experiments.

The company is best known for Bidule, a modular audio host used for routing, processing, and live performance, and for a family of chip-music instruments — chipsounds, which models the sound chips of vintage 8-bit consoles and home computers, chipspeech, which emulates classic speech-synthesis ICs, and the chipsynth series (C64, MD, SFC, PortaFM, OPS7) dedicated to specific console and FM hardware. Plogue also distributes the free sforzando SFZ player along with companion sample banks.

Underpinning much of the catalog is the ARIA Engine, a sample playback and synthesis engine Plogue co-developed with Garritan in the mid-2000s. ARIA has been licensed broadly across the music software industry, powering instruments and players in products from Garritan, MakeMusic's Finale, Avid's Sibelius, Sony's ACID Pro, and Akai's EWI-USB, among others.
