Founded in 2009 by Curt Malouin in Detroit, Michigan, Red Panda is a boutique effects pedal company specializing in DSP-based designs for experimentally minded musicians. Malouin, a software engineer by trade who previously developed the ObjektSynth software synthesizer, started the company in his spare time, building pedals in his garage before growing it into a full-time operation. Red Panda is credited with creating the first granular delay pedal, the Particle, released in 2011, which became a landmark product in the boutique pedal world and put the company on the map.

The lineup includes the Particle 2 granular delay, the Tensor time-manipulation pedal, the Context 2 reverb/delay, the Bitmap 2 bitcrusher, the Raster 2 delay, the Radius ring modulator, and the RD-1 Pitch Delay. The second-generation pedals run on ARM Cortex-M7 processors, a step up from the earlier Spin FV-1 chip designs. All pedals are assembled and tested in-house by a small team in Detroit. Red Panda's designs are known for making complex digital signal processing feel organic and musical rather than clinical, blending modern granular synthesis techniques with the character of classic digital hardware.
