V-Picks is a Nashville, Tennessee-based manufacturer of handmade guitar, bass, mandolin, and dulcimer picks founded by guitarist Vinni Smith, who originally crafted prototype picks in 1980 and relaunched the company as a commercial venture in the early 2000s. The picks were among the first on the market made from cast acrylic, a material Smith chose for its tonal clarity and fast release against the string.
Each pick is hand-cut, hand-ground on a bench grinder, and hand-trimmed with a razor knife, giving the line its characteristic rounded bevel and polished edge. The catalog spans more than 100 models in gauges from roughly 0.75mm up to the ultra-thick 11.85mm "Big Easy," with popular designs including the Screamer, Tradition, Medium Pointed, Freakishly Large, and the mandolin-focused Insomniac and Nite Owl. The company produces over 100,000 picks per year from its Nashville workshop and ships internationally.
V-Picks has built a following among working players across rock, country, blues, and bluegrass. Artists associated with the brand include Carlos Santana, Billy Gibbons, Brad Whitford, Phil Keaggy, Johnny Hiland, Vernon Reid, and Bob Weir.
V-Picks has 12 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Picks & Pick Holders and Slides. Their gear is featured by 6 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Folk, World, & Country, and Classical. Notable users include Billy Gibbons, Carlos Santana, and Johnny Hiland.
