Founded in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs in Yorkshire, England, Wharfedale is one of the oldest and most respected names in British loudspeaker design. Originally established as Wharfedale Wireless Works, the company pioneered innovations including the two-way loudspeaker, ceramic magnet technology, and sand-filled double-cabinet construction to eliminate resonances. A famous demonstration at Carnegie Hall showed that Wharfedale speakers were virtually indistinguishable from live music. The company is part of International Audio Group (IAG) and is headquartered in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
