I bought this in late 2013, early on in my tertiary music education, so I've had 10 years with it at this point. A friend had one, so had plenty of time playing with theirs in the studio before securing my own. I almost instantly fell in love with the incredible vintage warmth that this produces, particularly on the electric piano and clav sounds! It encapsulates those magical 70's/80's sounds that are right at home with anything funk, blues, soul, R&B. There are some lovely on-board piano sounds on here, and the organs can really scream. The FX on the SV-1 really elevate the unique and versatile texture you can achieve with the sounds. The EQ plays it's part, and the Pre FX are worth trying out - the compression works well to solidify and enhance the sounds, and the tremolo + wah are great to experiment with. Add a sweep pedal to fully make the most of the wah! The Modulation effects are super cool and bring some real spice to the sound - I've loved working with the phasers to create some sweet ambience, combined with the reverb/delay. The flanger adds some interesting variety, and the chorus FX are wonderful! The rotary is perfect for the organs. Amp Modelling is a real winner, enhanced by the Valve Reactor - mess around with it, and see what you come up with! There are so many sonic tones that are so unexpected, which is probably what I would highlight the most. This is a stage piano in appearance, but the immense variety packed into these keys, the sheer amount of options is staggering. The creativity it inspires is instant, and it transports you into some amazing territory, surprising you with the versatility it produces. This my first keyboard I owned for myself, and I still have it today! I've used this in recordings, performances, and I've found a lot of song have been written with this as the basis. The sound that comes out just seems to create songs for you, it sparks the imagination. I should also highlight how beautiful it looks - it looks retro, like something from another time period, yet it's so sleek and modernised. Beautiful is the word, it's a stunning keyboard. While I haven't had the opportunity to play the SV-2, this remains to me a classic and such a beautiful keyboard to work with! If you inherit one, or happen upon one in great condition, seriously consider it - one of the greats.
