What if I found a source which is only on Facebook? Like what?

If I put in a Facebook picture as a source I'm not sure if it is visible for everyone.

Yes, Facebook is a valid source if it proves that an artist uses a certain type of gear.

What if I found a source which is only on Facebook?

Hey lexman, Facebook posts are great sources, and typically viewable by everyone. Especially if they are posted from an account of a pro/someone famous/verified profile/etc

Yeah, my only problem was that FB is a closed network and Instagram or Twitter are relatively open to view.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to get an overall consensus on what is the most important things that need to be improved, so combed through this long thread. Thanks so much for all the input, and we’ll work on making it better. In that spirit, I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on prioritizing the most important issues, so here’s a breakdown of roughly what I’ve heard so far, in order of frequency of appearance. I’ve also limited this to the top 10 suggested improvements since I want to avoid just regurgitating this thread. I’d love to hear from you all what if this top 10 list looks right.

  • Removing items from boards. As humans, we make mistakes, and it would be cool if there was a process to remove incorrect submissions completely rather than editing.
  • Editing bands. There should be a way to completely edit an artists’ association with a band, add new bands, and edit photos and links on the band page.
  • Item categories like those on community made pages should also be on our individual pages (eg. michael’s board would have guitars, amps, etc. as categories)
  • Allow more gear photos to be added to your boards. The 3 photo limit would be removed.
  • There should be a way to merge duplicate artist pages.
  • There should be a way to merge duplicate items.
  • Add more categorization to items, but keep the overall structure. I’ll call this the Fender Telecaster problem. That is, it matters what year and model the guitar is, but not necessarily color.
  • Better sorting for the product search and category pages. People want to be able to sort by relevant specifications, price, etc.
  • Drag and drop for the order of things on your own page.
  • Mobile app.

If that looks like an acceptable top 10 list to you guys, we can get working on it. Thanks, everyone! Appreciate your thoughts.

Fantastic work, Michael!

I think it would make sense to start with editing bands. It shouldn't be too difficult to make the proper functions on the site, and it would greatly aid getting artists to their proper bands and such.

As an add-on to that suggestion, it would be nice if we can sort artists in bands for categories such as "current members", "touring members", and members who are no longer with the band.

This would be a good suggestion to strt with. I'm itching to get Explosions in the Sky and Ghost sorted out.

OH, speaking of Ghost, that page is a project in itself. There is one page dedicated to Ghost members, but this new function should helpto seperate them without needing a program to recognise "Air Ghoul".

Edit: Merging Tapatalk with Equipboard? Sounds like adding a chat room next to existant forums. Not sure about that, can't say. Someone else have an opinion?

I don't see the need for that either. A search function would be more useful in my opinion.

This thread and the "Identifying the gear" one should get a sticky as well.

So I just went on my phone to make a reply and WOAH! Minute changes to the foeum via mobile! Not sure what the regular website looks like, but it's kind of odd how stripped down it is on mobile. I await other minte chanes and responses!

Hey guys,

Quick update on some minor improvements that we just released.

  • We made the forums mobile friendly (We figure this will double Jim's output on Equipboard, and halve his output at work. The more we can benefit from that human encyclopedia of gear and tone, the better.)
  • We added a forum link to the mobile slide-out menu so it is easier to get to the forum from other areas on the site.

In other news, thanks for the feedback on the priority list. Sounds like bands should be at the top of that list, so we'll get started on it.

More to come!

I have less gear than I used to. Honest.

at work? no worries... I have more than enough time to post to EB, my coworkers are slow as balls, I can slack off and still get more done than Sonya the slug.... people never fail to amaze me! a lack of motivation can really drag people down to inhumanly low levels of productivity. I know a few people who whose jobs would be more productively filled by reptiles!

There are far too many Gibson J-200/SJ-200's around here. They are basically the same model, although they come in different variations.

And in general: It shouldn't be necessary to put a "Electric Guitar" or "Acoustic Guitar" behind the name of an instrument when there are categories.

I agree. We do need to deal with duplicates in a better way.

Unfortunately, there were not always categories....

If we are planning to go that detailed (like categorizing guitar pedals under fuzz&boost and so on), we need to do that on Equipboard as well. I mean, we can categorize pedals and things like this, maybe we should do that on pro's boards as well. Also, when you add things like guitars on Equipboard, there is a nice photo on one when you click "add". Why don't we do the same things for like strings and so on?

Also, I would like to say that we should ban people from posting things to Equipboard. There are many people here who've done more harm than good, having posted submissions with wrong items and wrong sources and with poor grammar. I would also like to address the Guitar Geek submissions - I can't do nothing about it. There is just a photo of rig without any photo or details. And there are no limitations.

Walrus, I totally agree. And by the way: That hyphen in "T-Bone Burnett" needs to be erased. He just T Bone, Mr. T Bone. I understand if you have more important issues but if things like that are possible for mods, maybe those can do that.

I understand your point about the redundancy, but thankfully we are able as users to edit that.

Oh, I noticed that there where no mentions to brands, which is an issue that I would like to be clarified as some items have a brand –e.g.: http://equipboard.com/items/apple-ipad belongs to the stated brand (http://equipboard.com/brands/apple) while http://equipboard.com/items/apple-mighty-mouse do not (as most items in general, beyond Apple).

GEAR:
  • Fender American Standard Telecaster

Apple... Mighty Mouse. That seems so unnecessary. It's one thing to have something like the 1 Spot power supply because even if it's redundant, it tells me who uses it, how many, whether it's popular, etc.

A mouse is a damn mouse. It has no purpose in the music proccess other than moving the cursor.

By the way, mobile Safari has a terrible habit of logging me out. That, and the posted image is way too big and I can't zoom out to see it.
