I fancied a short scale bass and I really like Gretsch guitars so I thought I'd get the G2220 as it's not crazy expensive and it looks rather good, especially in black.

I bought a brand new one from PMT Online and when it arrived I was greeted with a Squier P Bass box which didn't instil much confidence.

Once opened I found a Gretsch G2220 wrapped in bubble wrap and PMT Online branded tape. The guitar was literally covered in fingerprints, the pickguard had a scratch across the Gretsch logo and the tone control pot turned completely freely.

Checking the serial number showed that the guitar was made in early 2019 so could well have been on display and used for well over a year.

Hugely unimpressed by this, I didn't bother plugging in the guitar and contacted them in order to return it.

The guitar was picked up by the courier a few days later but it took two weeks and a few emails to actually get the refund which is also pretty shoddy.

The PMT Online website, if you look hard enough, does say that you might be offered a shop display item if the stock is listed as low but then you'll be informed of the overall condition before it's sent - this of course did not happen and the guitar I received should really have been sold with a full description as a B-Stock item at the very least. Certainly not sold as a brand new item at full pice!

I pre-ordered this G2220 from Rich Tone Music here in Sheffield which arrived the other day, brand new and in good order as you'd expect.

I really like this guitar, it's a lovely looking thing and it feels and plays really well. Very happy with the bass and with the service from Rich Tone Music.

Not happy at all with PMT Online so will certainly not be buying from them again.
