thedustroom's Music Gear Setup
I ordered the Gretsch G5425 Jet Club but it was out of stock which was fine, I’d wait but then I wondered if I would ever get it because Gretsch seemed to have stopped production of them, or so I thought.
Then we went into lockdown and I fancied something cheap and cheerful with humbuckers.
I bought the Squier Bullet Competition Mustang in order to make a bit of a Kurt Cobain tribute guitar without going mental with money.
Having really enjoyed modifying my Squier Affinity Stratocaster, I decided to mod the Mustang.
I bought the Seymour Duncan “Hot Rodded Pickup Set” in order to match Kurt’s SH-4 JB and tap the neck pickup so I can get a lovely single coil sound when I want one but be able to switch back to the humbucker too.
So, I was enjoying the mustang when suddenly the Gretsch arrived - I’d completely forgotten about it and had I remembered; I would have probably cancelled the order.
Boy; am I glad I didn’t! This thing is really, really good and for the money they’re just awesome.
They look and sound way more expensive, though they do seem to be £100 more than I paid now if you can get one, shame but still worth the money in my opinion. Great guitar.
The mustang is also great, so much so that I haven’t got around to the pickup swap yet.
