FiiO X3 Gen 2 Review — Headfonics

headfonics.com

The FiiO X3 Gen 2 DAP offers a solid upgrade over its predecessor with a more refined sound signature and a user-friendly design. Priced at $199, it delivers excellent value with support for modern hi-res codecs, making it a future-proof choice for audiophiles on a budget. However, it falls short in onboard memory and might not sound as natural as some competitors. The lack of internal storage is a noticeable drawback, but USB OTG support offers a workaround for storage expansion. Overall, the FiiO X3 Gen 2 stands out as a strong contender in its price range.

So far, so good.

I have an absurdly large digital music library. Most of it can't be found on any streaming services. Lots of bootlegs, live recordings, rare and/or discontinued albums and songs. Basically, nothing that could be replaced by any of the current streaming services and even on the biggest iPhone it's still too large to fit.

Ever since they discontinued the original iPod classic I've been looking for a replacement (why, Apple, why?!). Then with the advance of Hi-Rez audio becoming more common this look like a good option.

The interface, the design, the price point, & the ability to swap 128 GB micro-flash cards all made this the most attractive option.

I have yet to do any critical listening test but so far it sounds fantastic. I'll update this as soon as I do -along with more information on how this performs IRL.

I finally have a solid portable Hi-Rez digital music player. That's already a huge win.

Portable HiFi and Audio Interface in same device!

I'm using it as portable audio player, car music storage and as DAC for my PC! Love this little box!
