Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fruity Pad Controller (FPC).

Features and functionality

  • FPC uses relative mixer track assignments, leading to issues when tracks are moved or occupied by other instruments.

    Source
  • Alesis V61's lack of a bank switch button limits the ability to map all 16 FPC pads directly without additional software.

    Source
  • Some users experience pad delay when using the MPK Mini 3 and recommend adjusting MIDI settings or using the controller's software editor.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • FPC's internal pad mixer tracks can have negative numbers due to their relative nature compared to the main track.

    Source
  • Users with controllers lacking a bank switch button must rely on external software to attempt mapping additional FPC pads.

    Source
  • It's recommended to configure the controller settings through the software provided by the manufacturer, such as the "controller editor" for MPK devices, to ensure proper functionality with FPC.

    Source

User experience

  • Creating a project template with pre-organized bus channels can improve workflow and avoid mixer disorganization.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The global piano roll view in FPC is highly valued for seeing all drum sounds together, despite mixing channel issues.

    Source
  • To avoid order issues with drum sounds, it's noted that mapping notes for the entire bank should be done after clearing existing presets and reassigning samples manually.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Manually selecting mixer channels instead of using shortcuts prevents disorganization but might be cumbersome without a mouse.

    Source
  • Users suggest clearing the bank and re-mapping notes for each pad individually to resolve order and overlapping sound issues.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Arturia's KeyLab series is recommended for those seeking controllers with built-in bank switching capabilities, offering compatibility with AnalogLab software.

Essential

Its been a staple in all the projects that I've used and how easy it is to drag and drop samples and one-shots and layer them is something I have yet to see in any drum machine it's fantastic if you want your drums to sound unique and to build your own sound the only problem I had was that I couldn't add effects to specific pads but it suffices by letting me route every sample to its own mixer channel

Great drum pad VST

Very good drum pad VST, love the presets! I do wish that there were soundbanks that could be added instead of having to replace each sound per-pad.
