Arturia was founded in 1999 by Frédéric Brun and Gilles Pommereuil, two engineers who met at the Grenoble Institute of Technology (INPG) in France. The company built its early reputation on software synthesizer emulations, developing a proprietary TAE® (True Analog Emulation) technology designed to faithfully recreate the behavior of classic analog circuits in software. A defining early milestone came in 2003 when Arturia collaborated with Dr. Robert Moog to produce Modular V, a software recreation of his legendary modular synthesizer. This established a template for what would become the V Collection — an expanding suite of software instruments modeling iconic hardware synthesizers from the history of electronic music, including virtual recreations of the Minimoog, ARP 2600, Roland Jupiter-8, Sequential Prophet-5, and many others.
Arturia moved into hardware with the Origin synthesizer in 2009, then found broad commercial success with the 2012 MiniBrute — an all-analog monophonic synthesizer praised for delivering genuine analog tone at an accessible price. Subsequent hardware releases reinforced their identity as a company willing to experiment with form factor and interface: the MicroFreak pairs digital oscillators with a touch-capacitive keyboard and analog filter, while the PolyBrute is a 6-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer featuring a morphing matrix and expressive performance surface. The AstroLab is a 61-key stage keyboard built around their Analog Lab software engine.
Beyond synthesis, Arturia produces a range of MIDI controllers — including the KeyStep, KeyStep Pro, and BeatStep step sequencers — as well as audio interfaces under the AudioFuse and MiniFuse lines, and a software effects suite called FX Collection. Their Analog Lab software, which aggregates presets from across the V Collection into a unified performance interface, is widely used by live keyboardists and producers. Headquartered in Grenoble, France, Arturia has grown from a small academic software project into a full-spectrum music technology company.
Arturia has 283 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Synth Plugins, MIDI Keyboard Controllers, and Synthesizers. Their gear is featured by 708 artists, with the strongest followings in Electronic, Rock, and Pop. Notable users include Kostas Maskalides, Andrew Huang, and Shimron Elit. Most Arturia products fall in the mid-tier range — professional-grade without flagship pricing.
