OM System M.Zuiko Digital 17mm F1.8 II Review | PCMag

pcmag.com

The OM System M.Zuiko Digital 17mm F1.8 II lens impresses with its compact form, quick autofocus, and weather-sealing, making it ideal for outdoor photographers. It's lightweight yet durable, maintaining the image quality of its predecessor while adding protection against the elements. However, it drops the manual focus clutch, and the manual focus response is less precise. While its optical performance is excellent, it suffers from noticeable longitudinal chromatic aberration in bokeh, which might deter photographers sensitive to false color. Despite these drawbacks, its overall performance and features earn it an Editors' Choice nod for Micro Four Thirds users.

OM System M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8 II review: The old dog learned a new trick – but lost an old one | Digital Camera World

digitalcameraworld.com

The OM System M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8 II lens is a solid performer with some notable changes. It retains the exceptional optical performance of its predecessor while adding weather sealing—a much-requested feature. However, it sacrifices the beloved manual focus clutch, which may displease street photographers who rely on zone focusing. Street purists might shake their heads, but the inclusion of a lens hood and weather protection could appeal to a broader audience. If you're willing to trade the focus clutch for durability against the elements, this lens is a good investment. Nonetheless, at $549.99, consider if the upgrades align with your shooting style.
