Founded by luthier George Lowden in 1974 in Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland, Lowden Guitars is a family-run maker of handcrafted acoustic and electric guitars. George Lowden built his first guitar at the age of ten and went on to develop a distinctive modified A-frame bracing system with "dolphin" voicing profiles that give the instruments their characteristically warm, full, and dynamically responsive sound. The company's workshops in Northern Ireland produce instruments using Japanese hand tools under the supervision of George Lowden and his sons.

Lowden's range spans three main acoustic lines — the Original Series (including the F-10, F-12, and numbered models like the 20, 22, 23, 25, and 32), the 35 Series introduced in 2004 with upgraded appointments, and the premium 50 Series built with master-grade tonewoods such as African Blackwood, Ancient Bog Oak, and Madagascan Rosewood. The company also produces the GL Electric Series. In collaboration with Ed Sheeran, Lowden launched Sheeran by Lowden, a more accessible line of guitars co-designed with the artist.

Lowden guitars have earned a reputation as instruments favored by discerning players. Pierre Bensusan became the first high-profile artist to play a Lowden in 1978, and the brand's roster of players includes Eric Clapton, Richard Thompson, Damien Rice, David Gray, Alex De Grassi, Gary Lightbody, Paul Brady, Dermot Kennedy, and Niall Horan.

Lowden has 27 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Steel-string Acoustic Guitars, Acoustic-Electric Guitars, and Solid Body Electric Guitars. Their gear is featured by 23 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Pop, and Folk, World, & Country. Notable users include Ed Sheeran, Ariel Posen, and Niall Horan.
