    Source
  • Satson is expected to receive an update with oversampling, enhancing its audio processing capabilities.

    Source

User experience

  • Satson is praised for imparting an "analogue" feel, reducing the digital "made on a computer" sound, without overwhelming changes to the mix.

    Source
  • Users suggest that while Satson doesn't emulate specific console models, it provides an enjoyable analogue-like feel, which may not matter if exact console replication isn't critical.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Owners highlight Satson's affordability, often citing a $30 price point as a compelling entry into console emulation plugins.

    Source
  • Satson is often overlooked in favor of newer and more feature-rich alternatives, despite being a reliable choice for those seeking minimalistic console emulation.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Satson lacks the individual channel variation seen in Waves NLS, which introduces per-channel harmonic saturation and tonal differences for a more varied analogue experience.

    Source
  • Users recommend exploring free alternatives like Analog Obsession's KONSOL, which offers impressive sound quality despite lacking a meter for monitoring.

    Source
  • Sonimus Satson is noted for its subtleness compared to Waves' more pronounced effects, making it a preferred choice for minimal trade-offs in sound coloration.

    Source
  • Sonimus bus versions offer more functions than Lindell's, including "fat mode" and more than just a gain knob.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • It's highlighted that Satson lacks the user-friendliness of Slate VCC, which offers easier integration and simultaneous channel adjustments in mixing templates.

    Source
  • Satson plugins are not yet M1 native, which may be a consideration for Apple silicon users.

Sonimus Satson

soundonsound.com

Sonimus Satson is a versatile channel strip plug-in that impresses with its modular design and powerful features. With a preamp gain stage, a colorful compressor, and a smooth EQ, it delivers a range of sonic possibilities, from subtle warmth to crunchy saturation. The crosstalk and saturation features add vintage character, while the EQ boosts without harshness. Though lacking an external side-chain input, its side-chain filter and oversampling options are commendable, offering efficient CPU usage and reduced aliasing. Overall, this is a stellar offering from Sonimus, albeit with minor limitations.

Sonimus Satson review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Sonimus Satson offers a compelling 'load and forget' mixing solution for advanced engineers seeking subtle sonic enhancements. With its simple interface, good-sounding filters, and low CPU usage, it provides an affordable entry point for analog console emulation. The plug-in stands out with its adjustable saturation and dynamic behavior, although it lacks a global bypass control and isn't tied to a specific console model. Despite these minor drawbacks, at $39, Satson is a valuable tool that adds a touch of air and cohesion across your mixes, making it a worthwhile investment for enhancing sound quality.

Improved my mixing

Sonimus Satson improved my mixing by simulating a console with this great plugin. It made me think about the levels in terms of their VU meters on channels and busses and got me to actually use my mixer sliders in a way that made more sense in balancing a mix. By getting the channel input levels right using the Satson channel plugins at the top of each channel and dialing up the volume here, it made my downstream plugins work better as well because they were expecting some level in order to do their jobs. This plugin also allows me to have that little bit of crossfeed and saturation like a real console. Overall a low price for this for what it actually does.

I always mix with a VU meter on the master bus. Interesting that you mix with one (albeit inside a console plugin) on each channel.

Satson's grouping feature probably lends itself well to how you work though. Or am I wrong there?

larslentz

I like the VU meter because, as Ian Shepherd says, "I still use a VU meter, too, because there are important things about them that aren’t replicated in most loudness meters. The scale goes from, what, ‑30 to +3 dB and it’s vastly more sensitive around the zero point. So if you push even slightly too high it pegs, and if you go 3‑4 dB lower than zero the needle really drops."

Amazing!

This console emulation software has so many possabilities tied to it in such a small package. Very little CPU power consumption and has great versatility for just three small effects. It's really good for experimenting and if you use with your head something really good can come out of this plug-in. Because of the immense amount of fun you can have with this plugin, I give it a complete, absolute, without a doubt, five stars.
