Solid State Logic (SSL) is a British audio technology company based in Begbroke, Oxfordshire, England. Founded in 1969 by Colin Sanders — initially as a maker of solid-state control systems for pipe organs — the company pivoted to professional audio in the mid-1970s, building its first in-line recording consoles at Acorn Studios in Stonesfield. The launch of the SL 4000 E Series in 1979 established SSL as a dominant force in music recording, and its subsequent G, 6000, 8000, 9000J and 9000K variants became fixtures in major studios worldwide for two decades.
The company designs and manufactures analogue and digital mixing consoles, signal processors, audio interfaces, controllers, and software plug-ins for music production, broadcast, post-production, and live sound. Flagship products include the ORIGIN 32-channel analogue in-line console, the Oracle console, the Duality Fuse and AWS δelta hybrid consoles, the System T broadcast platform, and the Fusion and THE BUS+ outboard processors. The G Series Stereo Bus Compressor, originally developed as the center-section compressor for the 1980s SL 4000 G, remains one of the most recognizable mix-glue processors in the industry.
SSL has also moved into the project- and home-studio market with the SSL 2 and SSL 2+ USB audio interfaces and the UF8 and UC1 DAW controllers, along with a catalog of native plug-ins modeled on its analogue hardware. The brand is part of the Audiotonix group of audio console companies.
