Armin Van Buuren

Armin Van Buuren talks extensively about his live DJ setup. He uses 4 CDJ-2000s - two are used for the audio, and two for the SMPTE signal to synchronize his visuals.

Armin van Buuren recently shared on Snapchat that he is "testing out the new mixer," referring to the Allen & Heath Xone:DB4 DJ Mixer. He used it during his performance at Ultra Japan and hinted at possibly using it at TomorrowWorld. Notably, he opted for this mixer over his usual Pioneer model at Ultra.

The Pioneer DJM-2000 is Armin Van Buuren's DJ mixer of choice for his live setup.

"I wanted to make a sound system that's portable and fun. Right now I have perfect speakers in my studio, but in my office I want something compact and easy-to-use.

"So it's combining all these different elements, plus the fact that Philips were really eager to listen to my comments. I had really, really strong demands. If it didn't have all the tools that you'd have on more expensive equipment, people wouldn't be satisfied. I think it's a great way to learn how to DJ, how to build a night, and how to have a lot of fun playing music for your friends."

"My current setup is a [Pioneer] DJM-2000 mixer with four CDJ-2000 nexus players. As I said, we use the nexus players because we have the specific software written for those CDJs, so my team can see which tracks I’m playing and what visuals they can sync up. So, no matter how big or small the system, we can always work with the visuals."

"But, yeah, when I got a Technics SL-1200 turntable that was a moment for me. At first, I only had one [laughs]."
