Billy Sheehan's Strings
"Basic Rotosound strings, but the G string is a 43 instead of a 45, a little bit lighter, a little bit easier bend. And the E string is a 1.10 instead of a 1.05," Billy Sheehan explains, at 2:15 in this rig rundown, about his his signature Rotosound strings.
In this May 2002 issue of Vintage Guitar, Sheehan speaks of his Siganture Snarling Dogs Bass Strings:
VG: How are your basses set up?
BS: I use Snarling Dogs strings. I’d worked with Charlie Stringer to develop a line of strings that would duplicate the feel of the Rotosound strings I used for years, but would be more consistent in quality and tone. I use .043, .055, .085, .115, which is the Hell-Billys set. There are also Really-Billys, which are lighter, and Barely-Billys, which are the lightest.
In this video at 7:44, Sheehan pulls out a white Telecaster Bass and states:
"So moving up a little bit, take note this is a '68 Telecaster Bass, and I bring this out just to show that the necks on these are just massive, like a Baseball Bat, they're kinda famous for being this big giant thing."
"Now if some of you follow me on some social media, a couple weeks ago I put a set of Steve Harris from Iron Maiden's Flatwound strings on here."
[...]
So there's not a lot of bright shrill to them... But I thought they'd be a good thing on this old school Bass to put some Flatwound strings on it and just to have an original version of this tele bass."
Billy Sheehan uses Rotosound RS88LD Tru Bass Black Nylon Flatwound Bass Strings (65-115) on his Epiphone Rivoli, as confirmed in the YouTube video "The most unique P bass in history? Probably. (Bass Tales Ep.2)" by Scott's Bass Lessons. The use of these strings is evidenced by the distinctive silk color at the string ends, and Sheehan's long-standing association with Rotosound further supports this.
Used on the album "Lean into it" by Mr. Big according to the Rotosound website
Billy Sheehan is confirmed to use Rotosound RS66LDN Pure Nickel Bass Strings (45-105) on the album "Lean into It" by Mr. Big, as stated on the Rotosound website.
Used in the 80s with David Lee Roth, as stated in the Rotosound website, Billy Sheehan has been a long time Rotosound player and endorser
