Blackout's Gear

In the album cover for Dreamworld, the first solo longplay Blackout put out, it's possible to see a depiction of the X3 behind his profile-view skull in the center. However, Black's works prior to Dreamworld already featured the specific model, which can be heard ever since his earliest (released) works, such as Blackout Mixtape 93-95, all the way ahead on Solo Tapes produced by his associates in Snubnoze Muzik/Playa Posse/BBB Click.

The Korg x3 became extremely notorious and characteristic of Blackout's works, spreading all back to his early dark & syko soundz era up until his later serious and soulful sonority. Features such as the work station's variability and amount of presets fulfilled Black's creativity, allowing him to bundle them and mash them in his very own ways to create his own style.

In this 2024 interview presented by Shangri-La Records, Blackout confirms that he started off with the Boss DR-660.

At 18:24, Blackout states:

"I was using the Boss DR-660 during the core history"

A nice touch: someone in the audience exclaim "YES!" when the 660 gets name checked.

The Blackout Mixtapes 93-95 is one of the earlier productions by Blackout ever released. Already at 0:08, we can hear the 660 patterns kicking in. Throughout his whole discography, Black makes sure to stick loyal to his DR, with a huge probability of its patterns being responsible for the rhythmization of 95% of his discography.

Blackout's use of the Korg Triton Pro 76 was notably introduced during a period of significant personal artistic transition. Between 1996 and the 2000s, Blackout was reinventing himself, contributing to albums by Snubnoze, Terror, Playa Fly, and Gangsta Blac, among others. This period also included his work on "Under The Influence 1 & 2," where his growth as a composer and musician became evident, switching from a more minimalistic to a more soulful artist, however always maintaining his characteristic psychedelic and street-bounded aesthetic. This information is supported by the interview above, which is a Terror interview conducted by King JC, where's possible to spot the Triton behind them.

Blackout confirmed the use of the Akai MPC (There's plenty other pics in his if sided by the specific added model, 2000XL Blue) during the production of Playa Fly's Da Game Owe Me in his Instagram post on October 25, 2024. He stated, "This the first project I used the MPC on I actually was still learning how to use it during the process. Ensayne Wayne and Slice T (very well known producers ..very inspirational) use to always tease me about my 'lil drum machine' (DR660)."
