Chris Broderick's Gear
Megadeth’s Chris Broderick play the Ibanez Prestige S series he shows off in this Premier Guitar video. Broderick plays the S series “because of this tremolo system. I love that tremolo system and it's the only one that they put on their production series right now.” (6:29) He uses two DiMarzio D Activator pickups. "This pickup is everything I want,” Broderick says at (7:33). “I can't think of any tone or quality that I don't like about it."
“I've played Marshall forever,” Megadeth founder Dave Mustaine says at (3:52). “It's just I established the band on Marshall sound.” According to Chris Broderick, Megadeth’s lead guitarist at (7:51), “As far as the live rig, [Dave’s and my] rig are actually virtually identical. That's so that we keep that tightness that he was talking about.”
Pictured here is Chris Broderick playing his signature Jackson guitar. The product page for this guitar says: "Working with Jackson Custom Shop Master Builder Mike Shannon, Broderick designed his own special take on the venerable Soloist, with an offset arch-top mahogany body and quilt maple top (with matching headstock). Features include quartersawn maple neck with quilt maple binding and Floyd Rose® nut, natural body and headstock binding, ebony fingerboard with 12” radius and 24 jumbo stainless steel frets, Broderick-designed Custom DiMarizio® direct-mounted humbucking neck and bridge pickups, kill switch, recessed Floyd Rose® Pro bridge, black hardware, Planet Waves® Auto-Trim tuners, side-mounted Rhoads jack, Ernie Ball® strap locks and case."
"but in the end I wound up recording this entire album with my Fractal Audio Axe-Fx II."
So on to Th1rt3en, what did you use amp-wise? ** For the rhythms it was a mix of the Diezel VH4** and the Bogner Uberschall. It was a very good combination. I felt they complimented each other really well. And for the leads it was just the Bogner Uberschall. Those were [producer] Johnny K’s amps and those were amps that he really liked. When we looked at how those amps sounded in the mix, they definitely fit the sound the best out of all the amps we had.
In the YouTube video titled "Betcha Can't Play This - Chris Broderick (Megadeth)" by Snidress, Chris Broderick is seen using an Ibanez RG1527.
Megadeth uses the Digitech GSP 1101 Multi Effects Processor as a preamp. At (3:29) Megadeth’s guitar player Chris Broderick says, “The pre-amp, I think that's also done just for simplicity and ease, so we can get a diverse set of tones but still keep it simple. We don't need a ton of different amps breaking down night after night.”
According to Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick at (7:51) “Right now, we're running straight into…into Marshall cabinets loaded with the Vintage 30s. It's just your traditional thrash setup. That's what we're out here to do, so we're doing it.”
"SONAR’s QuadCurve EQ and ProChannel are stellar. Out of all the EQ’s I have used, I truly believe SONAR’s sounds the most musical and useful to me in most cases."
