Chris Cornell's Amplifiers
Chris Cornell frequently used the Divided by 13 JRT 9/15 guitar amplifier head, paired with 2 x FTR 37 cabinets, during performances with Soundgarden. This setup is visible in footage from their 2010 Lollapalooza performance, as captured in a video by Alexandre Fontenele on YouTube.
Chris used a Mesa boogie blended with a Marshall JMP50 and most of his songs on superunkown. As shown in the article.
As seen in the source article, two Savage Amps Rohr 15 are being used and switched by Chris Cornell.
As it can be seen in the video (52:28), Chris runs one of this amps at 15 Watts.
You can see two Surh PT 100s with cabs on the stage, that Chris was using on the Spring 2017 Soundgarden tour. Apparently, one head belongs to Pete Thorn, and he talks about it and about Chris using the amps, blending the sounds from the two PT100s, in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7ndyZXlYig&t=2s
I was also at the final show in Detroit and saw the amps on stage. They were set up to Chris' left, near Ben's bass rig. Kim's amp and cabs were on the other side of the stage.
Chris and Kim both used this amp on ultramega Ok and Louder than Love.
He used this Marshall blended with a Mesa boogie for the superunkown tone.
This GuitarWorld article states that on Superunknown, Chris Cornell’s tone came from a blend of a Marshall JMP50 head (not the combo which was previously submitted) and a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. It is quoted from this article; “Most of Cornell’s guitar tracks were recorded using a Marshall JMP 50 half stack and Mesa-Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo half stack blended together. On Black Hole Sun, the Marshall provided brighter tone with defined string attack, while the Mesa delivered darker tone with bigger body and bottom-end girth, and both amps were set to moderate levels of overdrive.”
In this photo, Chris Cornell is seen using a tan Marshall JMP 2204 Mk II Master Lead 50w amplifier while recording Soundgarden's 1996 album "Down on the Upside"
