Eric Peterson's Gear
In the Loudwire video "Thrash Musicians Play Their Favorite Riffs," Eric Peterson is seen using a Vox MINI3 G2 practice amp. However, it resembles the earlier G1 version.
Eric Peterson confirmed the use of Marshall JCM800 2203 amplifiers, stating, "We were using regular JMP 800 Marshalls and then we got JCM 800s with 25-watt speakers with a parametric EQ, which was a three-band EQ with a Tube Screamer. That was the tone we had for The Legacy and The New Order." This information is sourced from an interview on Ultimate Guitar.
In a 2020 article from Guitar World, Eric Peterson stated that he has returned to using Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom Slinky Guitar Strings (10-52).
In the video titled "Riff Lords: Eric Peterson of Testament," produced by Gibson TV, Eric Peterson is seen playing a Gibson Explorer Pro while demonstrating riffs on this guitar.
"Around The Ritual is when I switched. That was when I switched to the Rectifier and that was for Demonic, Low and The Gathering, which was kinda a rebirth in Testament. From 'Low' all the way up to now, I’m totally happy with the sound. The stuff before is kinda weird but then again The Ritual sounded good. Nigel Green and Tony Platt [both of them worked with AC/DC] mixed it and worked with Mutt Lange and worked with all our old-school heroes like Gary Moore. So those guys had some tricks up their sleeves."
Testament guitar tech Jeff Cummings posted a picture on Instagram of Eric Peterson's guitar rig used on the Thrash of the Titans 2026 tour. A Neural DSP Quad Cortex can be seen in the rig along with a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700.
