Gary Talley
guitarist for The Box Tops
Gary Talley's Gear
In the famous promotional video for The Letter, Gary Talley can be seen on the right-hand side, where he is playing a Fender Stratocaster, and it seemed to be slightly modified. Gary played guitar for the band after the previous guitarist left the group, and this Stratocaster only made an appearance on this video.
In the live (present) version of The Box Tops number, Cry Like A Baby, Gary Talley (main singer in the video) can be seen with a Coral Electric Sitar. Since the song calls for an Electric Sitar, in between the breaks, Gary Talley played one. This sitar may be a reissue and it is unknown whether Gary owned a Coral Electric Sitar during his prime years.
In the video of Soul Deep, Gary Talley on the right-hand side can be seen playing an Epiphone Casino. A close-up shot at 0:47-0:50 shows the Epiphone guitar. Its whereabouts are still unknown and the ownership is also still unknown.
In the video, despite only a small frame, Gary Talley can be seen at the bottom right for a few seconds during a pan (1:33-1:35), you can see a bit of Gary playing a Hammond B3 Organ. In the intro, there is a close-up of his playing, sustaining a chord. Gary occasionally played a bit of keys when his guitar duty is put aside.
In a user-uploaded photo, Gary Talley is pictured holding a Fender Telecaster equipped with a Fender Bigsby Tremolo. The setting appears to be either a studio, as suggested by visible stairs, or backstage prior to a performance. The specific role of this Telecaster in Talley's collection remains unclear, as it might have been a backup or a borrowed instrument.
