In a Future Music interview (issue 298), Grimes discusses several VSTs and plugins she used in Ableton while making Art Angels, including iZotope’s Nectar: “I used iZotope Nectar on a couple of vocal tracks too, but it crashes a lot.” It’s not clear which Nectar release she’s referring to, but Nectar 2 seems probable, since it was released during the same period Grimes was recording Art Angels.

Mentioned in this October 27, 2015 Stereogum interview covering the gear used for Art Angels.

I love the Nexus VST and Native Instruments’ Massive, and I really like using iZotope Ozone for sending people demos. I ‘mastered’ the album with Ozone, although obviously I get it professionally mastered in the end. I love the Waves plug-ins too, especially the Manny Marroquin reverbs, which I really like for doing vocals. I used iZotope Nectar on a couple of vocal tracks too, but it crashes a lot.

In a Future Music (issue 298) interview, when asked whether she is seeking “inspiring new sounds and effects plug-ins”, she responds: “There’s this synth that’s like a plant you can grow, called Synplant … it has all these weird parameters where you can take a sound and throw a plant arm around it. It’s really visual, so you’re not really working with numbers … It’s very intuitive and you can mess with the sounds without having to know that much about how it works.” It’s not clear from the interview whether Grimes has actually used this synth in any of her recordings.

Grimes on Twitter (March 2019): "New song - Pretty Dark (demo)..." Some asked: "c did u sound design the songs itself or did u use some presets?? i love so much this main sound!!!" Grimes responded: "A bit of both, some serum fiddling for the bass. Also v poorly played guitar, then nexus/ omnisphere presets I think"
