Jamie Stillman's Gear
Mentioned by Juan Alderete in this March 20, 2019 Instagram post.
The doctor @lasynthco to the rescue on this one of maybe 50 made @ehx rack synths. I used one on Cryptonesia and wished I owned it but @infrasonicsound wouldn’t sell me it. I know @jamiestillman has one because @realkidkoala found one in Seattle and told me to buy it but my funds were tied up in another gear purchase at the time. Distortion Felix Manny introduced me to them back in the early 90’s because he sold one to @davidbowie manager for @theadrianbelew and then he had another that he sold to @u2 for The Edge. #pedalsandeffects #ehxfacts

Used with The Party of Helicopters. It broke down on tour, which prompted Stillman to foray into repairing it, starting his career as a pedal builder. He discusses this in this May 6, 2015 Gear Gods interview, this March 5, 2016 World of Music interview, and this August 1, 2019 Sam Ash interview.
Gear Gods, "Overdrive Week – Interview With Jamie Stillman of EarthQuaker Pedals" by Trey Xavier (May 6, 2015)
I had a DOD OD250 with a broken pot. I looked up the schematic, found one on generalguitargadgets.com and thought, “That’s it? I could build one of those”! Following that I started obsessing and building stuff for friends and myself.
World of Music, "Q&A: Jamie Stillman from Earthquaker Devices" (March 5, 2016)
All the gear I used while touring in the POH was fairly cheap and had seen better days. One of my favourites was an old a DOD250 overdrive that stopped working and that repair led to my obsession with building gear.
Sam Ash, "An Interview With Jamie Stillman Of Earthquaker Devices" by Ben Ash (August 1, 2019)
Ben Ash: What inspired you to make effect pedals, even before the business?
Jamie Stillman: I had an old DOD250 overdrive that I used a lot and it broke, I bought a replacement, it didn’t sound like that one, so I thought “Who’s going to fix a pedal? No one.” No one fixed pedals by us so I looked it up.
B: And this is in Akron?
J: In Akron. I looked it up online for “schematic for DOD250”, I took the pedal apart; it was just a broken pot but it didn’t have the value on it and I found it in the schematic and replaced it on thought “That was fun! And it works now!” so where I found that was GeneralGuitarGadgets.com which is a DIY site.
B: What year are we talking about when this happened?
J: 2004?

I mainly use a 1968 Jazzmaster and a 2011 Les Paul into Musicman HD130 head and an old Marshall 8x10 cabinet. I use a lot of pedals but my pedal board never stays the same for long. The mainstays are: Speaker Cranker Overdrive, Grand Orbiter Phase Machine, Ghost Echo Reverb, Disaster Transport Delay and a BBE Sonic Stomp.
