This guitar is featured alongside another Stratocaster designed to resemble the one he used with the Thunderbirds.

While playing alongside Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Phil Palmer and his brother at Alpine Valley in 1990, Jimmie Vaughan played a Pewter Eric Clapton Stratocaster.

Well, I bought an L-5. I forget what the model is, but it’s got a pointy cutaway and it’s with humbuckers. I bought it from Rudy [Pensa, of Rudy’s Music] up in New York. It’s a jazz guitar. And I have a couple of those.

Jimmie Vaughan has been seen using a 1967 Fender Coronado II during live performances, as evidenced by photographs on Austinsocialplanner.

Did you record this with your 1967 Fender Coronado guitar? "No. I found a Japanese knockoff. I don't even know what it is because it doesn't have a name on it. I bought it on eBay for $245. It's a fake Coronado. It looks similar to a Coronado. It's a Coronado knockoff. But the pickups is why I like it. It's got pickups that are similar to Bigsby pickups from the old days. They just sound great. This guitar was donated from Jimmie Vaughan and Fender to Eric Claptons 2004 guitar auction.

This guitar was used for a double neck action between Jimmie Vaughan and his brother Stevie Ray Vaughan for a song called "Pipeline".

“This is the kind of stuff I like,” he said, pulling his fingers across the strings of a worn Gibson L-5. “I like guitars that are old and have a classic sound, like you can’t get out of the ones they make today.”

Jimmie owned/played this guitar while with The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Do you still have that killer ’50s Barney Kessel Kay with the Kelvinator headstock?

Yes. It’s one of my favorite things. I heard that Barney Kessel, who is one of my favorite guitar players, didn’t like it. I can kinda understand that. You like what you like, you know. And you can have five guitars that look the same, but one of ’em’s gonna work and the other four won’t.Some of them can speak to you and bark better, you know what I mean?
