Johnny Christ says in this video at (1:09), “I knew that I wanted a classic pianic [sic] sound as well as a guttural, clanky distorted growl to it. And I wanted that all in one bass whereas before I’d have to switch basses out whether I’m at the studio or on tour to get those two different sounds. So I just wanted to incorporate those two things together and make the bass look awesome too."

According to Christ's guitar tech in this Premier Guitar video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDj6XodwOYU) at (8:40), the A7X bassist uses EMG pickups, "he uses a blend," of bass and guitar pickups in all of his bass guitars.

"When I played the P-Basses and Rickenbackers on Nightmare, I felt like that was getting closer to the tone I want to get. I wanted the percussive low end of a StingRay humbucker blended with the classic P-Bass clunk and Rickenbacker growl. For six months, Schecter and I went through six or seven different pickup combinations before finally trying an EMG 81 guitar pickup in the neck position. When we tried it, we knew we had what I was looking for. With a blend knob to roll from one pickup to the next, the bass has a really broad sound, from pianistic clarity to distorted growl. Right up the middle gets the sound I generally want. After 60 years of the electric bass, so much of it is all the same; it’s cool to be pushing some boundaries and trying new things."

If you look very closely, you can see that Johnny is using a 5 string Schecter with humbuckers and it exactly looks like a Stiletto Stage-5

According to Hard Rock Cafe, Christ used this bass back in 2008 for "Taste of Chaos" tour.
