Jonathan Donahue's Gear
We can see in this photo of Donahue and Grasshopper playing live that Donahue is using a mocha brown Stratocaster with humbuckers. Previously he had used a regular sunburst Strat with single coils.
In the video (7:00 is a good example), Donahue can be seen using a Telecaster Deluxe. In certain shots it can be seen with a Strat bridge/vibrato system and is Mocha Brown, which are both standard for the Nash T72-DLX model and aren’t found on any regular/old Fender offerings, thus has to be a Nash.
All throughout this live performance of Bronx Cheer, we can see Donahue using a Fender Jaguar. It seems he used these guitars (and Harmony Rocket hollow bodies) in the early part of Mercury Rev, before moving onto Strats around the time of Deserter’s Songs, which had remained as his main electric up until recently.
In the photo, Jonathan Donahue can be seen playing a Guild F-150CE Nat Westerly.
