Julien Baker's Guitars

Julien's Baja Telecaster can be seen in quite a few shows. It's virtually indistinguishable from the '52 Reissue other than the writing on the back of the headstock, which is visible right at the beginning of the video.

Used extensively in her old bands The Star Killers/Forrister and early solo work. From around the release of her second album Turn Out The Lights it started serving more as back-up for her Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster.

The guitar wasn't shown in the Premier Guitar Rig Rundown she did in 2018, but it is briefly discussed from around 1:00 to 2:55 in that video. Julien explains that she bought it used, modded it herself by putting in a 4-way switch with series wiring for the 4th position, and that it has Lollar pickups.

A serial number starting with MZ3 is visible on the headstock in the source picture, making this a 2003-2004 model. The metallic, slightly tealish blue used on Mexican models at that time would have been Blue Agave.

Pictured here at House of Vans Chicago on June 19, 2019, this can be spotted on footage from several shows and Instagram live streams and appears to be Julien Baker's number one guitar since sometime during spring of 2019.

The source picture clearly shows the Moollon Guitars logo on the headstock and the absence of any specific model name. The manufacturer's website refers to their T-style guitars as the "T Classic" model, which is why it has been listed here as such.

Moollon guitars are generally meant to replicate "pre-CBS" Fender guitars but are built to order, allowing for some personalization. It is unknown what the exact specifications in terms of construction and electronics of this example are, apart from a few aspects that can be determined visually: the double-bound Thinline body, maple fretboard and small pickguard are notable deviations from the basic T Classic model.

Source photo is a screenshot from her 'Live on KEXP at Home' performance recorded January 6, 2021. She used this guitar for the last song, a solo acoustic cover of Soundgarden's "Fell On Black Days", from 9:39 in the video. The model designation can be read from the sound hole at several points throughout the song.

She used the same guitar, this time adorned with"Queer Joy" stickering, at Newport Folk Festival on July 28, 2021. Yamaha themselves have used a photo from this performance to promote the CSF-TA TransAcoustic on various social media (see Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
