Kate Bush
Kate Bush's Gear
Kate's band can clearly be seen using the Roland JX-8P and its associated programming module, the PG-800, during this classic 1987 performance of 'Running Up That Hill' for the Secret Policeman's Third Ball, with David Gilmour on guitar.
This Sound On Sound article states: "The huge cost of the Fairlight CMI did not put the rich and famous off. Peter Vogel brought an early CMI to the UK in person, and one of the first people to get one was Peter Gabriel. Once UK distributor Syco Systems had been set up, the client list started to grow. John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) bought the first as a replacement for his Mellotron. He was soon followed by Kate Bush, Thomas Dolby, Geoff Downes, Queen, Keith Emerson, Alan Parsons, Stuart Copeland, JJ of Art of Noise, Trevor Horn and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and many others."
"For the actual tune, whilst any additional harmonies would be added afterwards using a tape with the basic piece on it. I use a Revox ½-track machine to sing along with — I never put it down though at this stage — I just sing with it to see if it works. Really, it's for playback to help me, and I would use an 8-track studio for demos. I've also been using the Teac Portastudio 144 which I find useful."
Kate's studio was equipped with two A80 1/2' tape machines. It's what she used to record The Hounds of Love, The Sensual World, and The Red Shoes.
From the official Neumann website:
"The list of renowned artists who have created musical masterpieces with the sound of the U 47 fet – including AC/DC, Kate Bush, Bruce Springsteen, and later R.E.M, the Pretenders, a-ha, Dire Straits, Metallica, Michael Bublé and many others – can now grow longer ..."
According to Del Palmer (who would be the guy who would know this stuff...) Kate's studio was equipped this console.
Kate Bush used the Stepp DG1 Digital Guitar Synthesizer during a televised performance, as detailed by Bob Leggitt on Planetbotch.
