Leo Wyndham's Guitars
In this video titled Palace's Leo Wyndham - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 460, Leo Wyndham takes us through his gear, starting with his guitars. His primary electric guitar is a Mexican made Fender Telecaster Deluxe in a black finish:
...first up we have my main guitar which is my Fender Telecaster Deluxe, this lovely Mexican guitar with custom pickups called Brass Monkeys they're called. I wanted to get sort of like have a Tele sound but have a slightly beefier uh tougher sort of tone, so I know this guy who gave me these custom pickups which give it a slightly punchier more rounded tone. You'll see that my guitar is not in the greatest shape. It's been through the wars and I've sort of stripped it down and repainted it a thousand times and now it's, yeah Tommy's had to do quite a lot of work on this. I use Power Slinkies which is 11 to 48. I pretty much am always with this guitar on the neck pickup, I never I tried to avoid that sort of scratchier thinner tone and have a sort of more rounded ... but yeah so 11 to 48 um that's pretty much the string I'm always using. These guys I'm always, yeah the tone's totally up, volume all the way up. But sometimes I do some volume control in certain parts of songs with this guy, we have a new song called When Everything Was Lost where I do a lot of sort of like volume control throughout the throughout the song. I've had this probably for like nine years this guitar, it's like the guitar that was on our first ever recordings. For some reason there's a sticker of a horse in the back. I don't know why that is and some other weird doodles...
In this video titled Palace's Leo Wyndham - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 460, Leo Wyndham takes us through his gear, starting with his guitars. His second electric guitar is a Fender Telecaster Custom:
...this is my other guitar, this is my Custom Telecaster. It's nothing special this guitar really it's pretty... in a way it's kind of special it's got some nice tape on it. I haven't done anything with the pickups it's just the sort of standard ones. This one has a sort of brighter sound it doesn't have the same pickups as that one so it has a slightly like higher register. I don't like playing this one quite as much if I'm honest. But I need it because we use lots of different tunings and poor Tommy's that has to, I mean every single song we're like changing tunings. So every song we're basically changing, Tommy's over here like you know 'speed of sound' doing the tunings freaking out occasionally. So yeah that's that.
In this Instagram post, Leo Wyndham of Palace mentions Fender hooking them up with a Fender Player II Mustang and Fender Player II Jaguar (the Mustang is black and being held by Leo, while the Jaguar is red and being held by bandmate Rupert Turner):
Thank you @fender for making two axe men very very happy. Player II Jaguar & Mustang now in the locker. Sounding real real nice 🎸. Can’t wait to get these onstage x #fender #guitars
Throughout this video Palace - mini concert (live @Great Wide Open), Leo Wyndham plays an Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RA Acoustic Guitar. Leo's model has abalone binding and a Solid Spruce top. A good look at the guitar can be had at 8:44 into the video.
In this live performance of the song Live Well by Palace, Leo Wyndham can be seen playing a Fender PM-1 Limited Adirondack Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric guitar. The details can be seen throughout the video, but at 2:50 there is a nice closeup where the headstock and fretboard details can be seen, as well as the pickguard. The body shape matches a Dreadnought as well. The standard PM-1 has a subtly different design on he headstock.
