He used this kit to record periphery 4. Matt switched to pearl after being a long time mapex artist. He did so because he felt change was needed after people he worked closely with at mapex either passed away, or left mapex.

The color is because of his home town of Baltimore, and his love of the Baltimore Orioles. Matt also explains that, he wanted the sticks to be weighted in a way that it helps the drums respond to his playing style.
