Michael Been's Gear
It's really visible in the middle. After Scene Beyond Dreams in 1984 - Michael took over Bass guitar live and in the studio. His bass of choice, which it seems he was using since the 1970's as there are older photos of him playing it back then in other projects, is this Ampeg AUB-1 Fretless Bass. He uses it to great effect on "Reconciled" later records to great effect. While he uses other basses this seemes to have been his main one that he liked to use the most. It also was custom outfitted at some point with an EMG P-Bass pickup and an upgraded bridge setup.
Michael Been's main guitar in The Call before he started playing bass was this custom Telecaster with a Gretsch Filtertron in the neck position. It also makes a sonic appearance on later records during the sessions as I believe Michael would play guitar in the studio after Scene Beyond Dreams.
Here's Michael Been at an early Call gig playing a Fender Stratocaster guitar.
Looking behind Michael Been here, looks like he's using a Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier.
