Mississippi John Hurt's Gear
Mary Hurt, grandaugter of Missisipi John Hurt talked about this guitar after she saw a video on the internet:
I was watching that video just yesterday. You know, that is the very guitar that MJH taught me on years ago, man. It is a Guild F30 Sunburst with the high end, and it was given to him by The Newport Folk Foundation. MJH picked it out at a guitar store in New York City, even though they wanted him to have a pre-war Martin 00-42. Since MJH did not want to be bothered with such an expensive guitar, he chose the Guild.
Mississippi John Hurt is listed as using a Regal Dobro resonator guitar, as noted in the "Blues Singers & Their Instruments" compilation by Dai Thomas from October 2007.
