Pat Fairlie

During Marmalade's heyday, they had two bassists within the band, one of them being Pat Fairley. Pat's role in the band, prior to this, was as a rhythm guitarist, but he switched to playing a six-string bass, along with Graham Knight who plays the standard 4-string Bass. In doing so, Patrick uses a Danelectro Longhorn six-string bass, though some may speculate that it is a baritone guitar instead. Patrick uses this instrument from the start of 1967 until around 1970 when he switched back to rhythm guitar. The first appearance of this bass is during the Beat Club promotional shoot of their song, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da. Occasionally, the string arrangement of the bass would be changed, with their final arrangement of having the EADG string in the 2-3-4-5 string section. The bass, I believe, made its final appearance during their performance in the Doing Their Thing show for Granada.

In a user-uploaded photo, Pat Fairlie is pictured playing a Rickenbacker 330 electric guitar, likely in a jet black finish, during a mimed TV performance. Notably, this is an unusual sighting, as the Rickenbacker 330 was not seen in subsequent performances. It's believed that Fairlie borrowed this guitar and later traded it.

In a mimed TV performance, Pat Fairlie is pictured with a Gibson J-160E. This guitar might be the same one that Junior Campbell used, as Campbell didn't reverse the strings on his guitar, allowing him to swap guitars with Fairlie. Fairlie occasionally played the J-160E.
