Roky Erickson's Gear
In the YouTube video "You're Gonna Miss Me" by the 13th Floor Elevators, Roky Erickson is seen playing an Epiphone Casino, identifiable by its distinct headstock design.
Roky played various Gibson ES models in 13th Floor Elevators. Here’s pictured with a ES-330. The headstock on his says Gibson.
The 330 and Epiphone Casino are identical cosmetically (except for the inlays after dots were replaced with blocks on ES-330 in 1962 (so Roky had an early one) and parallelograms on Casino in 1963) and technically.
In multiple shots circa ‘66-67 he’s seen playing a red Gibson ES-335. I think no further explanation is needed as this one’s easy to tell.
In this image Roky’s playing a ES-345. Varitone switch and parallelogram inlays are a combination that the only guitar from the three (335, 345, 355) has, the 345.
Pre-13th Floor Elevators. Roky playing a Fender Jaguar with the Spades circa ‘65.
