Shirley Manson's Microphones
In the Garbage video, "Girls Talk," Shirley Manson can be seen using the VM1. Her husband, and Garbage's longtime sound engineer, Billy Bush, describes its use on other recordings here: "The first record was all (e lam) 250, version 2.0 was 250 for leads and most backs, some VM-1. beautifulgarbage had a couple of tracks that were all VM-1 - "Drive You Home" and "Silence Is Golden". The James Bond song "The World Is Not Enough" was the VM-1." https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showpost.php?p=137086&postcount=14
"On the first couple of Garbage records, I used my vintage ELAM 250 mic, which is from 1959; I think it came from RCA studios in New York, and rumour has it that Elvis and Frank Sinatra used it at some point, which is pretty cool. It sounds great. Sometimes I would go through an API preamp, sometimes a Neve preamp; and then we put in a Trident A Range that we had. A lot of times, Shirley’s vocal would go through that." - Butch Vig (Drummer/Producer for Garbage) https://www.waves.com/behind-the-music-with-butch-vig
Shirley Manson used the wireless version from 2012 to 2017. "As a touring professional who has used his fair share of microphones and wireless capsules on stage, Divens explains the major benefit of using the WL40V that he found. 'When Shirley said to me that this was the first time she’s used a microphone that sounded like what she uses in the studio, I knew it was the one.'"
Seen in the above video. Shirley has been using this capsule since Garbage's 2018 tour.
