In an episode of The Random Show together with Kevin Rose, the two of them go back and forth trading holiday gift ideas. Around 1:12:10, Tim Ferriss recommends the Elgato Wave:3 Microphone as his travel mic of choice, and speaks very highly of it:

I got this microphone for travel called the Elgato Wave:3, it is a gorgeous piece of design, it makes me think of Braun design back in the day. And it actually solves - somehow - bounce and echo better than this fancy Shure mic that I’m speaking into right now. It is really impressive. I don’t know what they do with the firmware, software, whoever the hell designs these types of things, but this has become my favorite travel mic, is the Elgato Wave:3. Also, not that expensive... I rely on it, to the extent that I’m professional, for professional recording.

Tim Ferriss confirms his use of the Zoom H6 Portable Recorder on his website, stating: "For in-person recording, I use the H6 with simple stage mics. For recording 2-4-person interviews, it’s easier to use than the older H4n model."

Tim Ferriss confirms his use of the Shure SM58 microphone on his blog, stating, "I’ve tried all sorts of fancy lavalier mics, booms, etc. For my money, nothing beats these old-school stage mics for in-person podcasting. You could throw them against a wall and they’d probably be fine. Some people use mic stands to hold them, but I do not. I prefer to let/make guests hold them, as they’re less likely to lean away. Sound levels (volume) are therefore more consistent, requiring less fussing in post-production."

In his blog, Tim Ferriss confirms the use of the Audio-Technica ATR2100x-USB microphone, stating, "This is my go-to travel mic for all remote interviews. It can also be used for recording intros, sponsor reads, etc. with Quicktime. I will often mail guests this mic via Amazon Prime if they need one, as it has the best bang-for-the-buck value I’ve found."

On his blog, Tim Ferris explains that the Logitech BRIO Ultra HD Webcam is his preferred camera for remote interviews as, "I’ve always used my built-in MacBook lens for podcasting, Zoom, and so on. I looked into getting a prosumer setup with a great Sony camera, but I wasn’t motivated enough to fuss with lots of setup on a laptop that is by definition going to move a lot. This BRIO webcam was the middle ground I found, and I love it. What’s most remarkable and surprising is that, although I bought it to improve the other side’s experience, it makes my own experience of video chats much more enjoyable and much easier on the eyes."
