tothead's Gear
In a YouTube video titled "Korg Monotron Delay // My little devil," tothead demonstrates the use of the Korg Monotron DELAY Analog Ribbon Synthesizer to create drone sounds, primarily during ambient performances.
Tothead utilizes the Arturia MiniBrute Analog Synthesizer primarily for lead synth sounds. The synth has been customized to include a sequencer instead of the standard arpeggiator, which is frequently featured in his live performances. Notably, Tothead prefers recording sequences in real-time rather than relying on pre-recorded ones. This setup is documented in a photo available on Dropbox.
This is the main instrument in the setup. It is used for pads and solos, very often recored live on a built-in 8 track sequencer.
The only drum machine in the tothead's setup. It has been customized with stickers. The TR-8 has the 7X7 expansion, it is even mentioned in the top left corner of TR-8 front panel. TR-8 is used as the end mixer (stereo-sum), which goes directly to RNLA, the stereo sum compressor.
Tothead uses it as an fx chain processor linked to the sub mixer in the setup, rarely as a sampler.
It connects the TR-8 main clock to other MIDI devices.
Tothead uses TB-3 for deep bass sounds. The piece has received a custom front panel with artist's logo and additional system information.
As tothead uses a hardware only setup in live situations, the RNLA 7239 compressor is a very crucial part. It is set at the end of the stereo sum.
Tothead uses the TC Electronic Flashback Delay to process sound directly from the Minibrute, as shown in the Dropboxusercontent photo.
